Fresh off the bench

This rod I built for me , and plan on using it come Sept. on a special stream w/ big fish to give it a real test. Pictured is a 6' 2pc. 5wt Lee Wulff taper (blank supplied by OSD) with green wraps and a reel seat I found that closely matches the super flame job done on the blank. I used a standard carbaloy stripper guide and added a folding hook keeper for ease and convenience.
I lawn cast the rod tonight and it cast like a dream............Ed

Nice build. I've seen that reel seat before and considering buying one. What is your overall opinion is on them.

Couple of you folks wanted to know about the reel seat: 1. It was an e-bay find 2. My opinion of it .... It is pretty nice overall. The rings are cast aluminum , and although I'm not a big fan of cast materials, this one , was just too nice to pass up.....Ed

This is for you technical peoples

The rod Taper was slightly modified because of it being a 2pc. The original Lee Wuff taper was a 1pc. rod
I also believe this rod could easily handle a 6wt. line which is really incedible considering its length. Easily cast 60ft and roll casts extremley well.......the true test (for me) will be a big fish on the end of the line, which shouldnt be too far off........Ed

6 ft one piece

The "Travis" rod which Trav originally built for JC was returned to him when we moved to WA as we had no place to fish it (no, didn't know about Rock Creek then) it had been well used and he rewrapped and refinished it. That is what I fished this past month while I was in Montana. I loved it years ago, and love it still. I believe it was an Orvis kit, which of course they don't produce any more. 5 wt is pushing it for spring creeks, I believe he was fishing a one weight on DePuys yesterday. By the way, the prize for this month's drawing is a day of fishing on DePuys Spring Creek, Livingston MT - the winner might even get some guiding by some other FAOL members. Make sure you register.

OK, I now 1/2 understand it. The bottom numbers are the rod every 5 inches starting at the tip. What are the vertical numbers?

Update on the lee wulff

First chance I had to get out fishing since I built the rod.
I had two on , an 18-20" brooke trout which I almost had in (released at feet ....unintentionaly) and this fat Brown you see below (released in good shape) (tuff takin pictures when your by yourself) The fishing was very slow , but I managed to christen the rod anyhow. There are bigger ones waiting for this little stick........all in due time..........Ed

OH ......I failed to mention : I also caught a Mallard Duck with the rod on a dry fly! Was quite a tussle, but both rod and duck survived the ordeal.
