my question would be who makes a 10 ft 3 wt besides Greys?
Dan Craft has a 10' 3# in his FT line.
I believe Global Dorber makes a 10 foot 3 weight. I know they have a 10 foot 4 wgt as I have one on order.
There is info here on a 10'4", 3wt here:

10 foot 3w.
that would make a wonderful mini Trout Spey rod :D
thanks,
Kind regards,
UB
PlanetTrout,
I checked the prices of those rods and they seemed a might steep to me. For a 10'4" 3 wgt it's 542 Euros ($734.59) and for a 10'6" 4 wgt it's 551 Euros ($746.94). I know Italy has some fine rod fisihing gear manufacturers, but that is really too high for me.

Not sure if Global Dorber makes a finished 10' 3#, but they have 10' blanks for 1,2,3,4 #s -

If you'd be interested, give them a call, they may custom wrap one for you. Of course wrapping one yourself is pretty easy, and you can save a few bucks.
Thanks to all that responded!
How are you intending to use this rod? Highstick nymphing? Just curious....
Mercado,
I have been using 10ft. rods since 1985 when the Scott Rod Co. made up a 10', 5wt., G series for me ( yes, they USED to do that). I use them primarily for nymph fishing and for lake fishing from a tube or boat. I like them in a 6wt. for fishing big rivers and big flies like the Madison in Montana. I like the way they mend line and Davy Wotton, no slouch, swears by 'em. The guy who got me into Scott Rods and longer rods was a guy named George Odier... George worked with Chuck Fothergill in Aspen, CO..Chuck developed " high stick nymphing" although, he ( Lefty coined this) called it the "out-trigger technique"...

More on Chuck and George and a fly pattern that has taken MORE than it's fair share of fish for me...

The guys in Europe use them to a much larger extent than we do here. Gatti also makes longer rods and has a US distributor in Montana...they - are nice rods too!!!

Heinrich,
Global Dorber will sell their blanks as blanks or as finished rods.
Hey Uncle Barry....speaking of spey rods for trout....I HAVE a Global Dorbger 10' 3wt blank. They only sell them in full flex by the way. Perhaps I could get some advise from you on how to build it.
Gemrod
GLOBAL DORBER ROD ON ORDER, THANKS GEMROD AND THE REST OF THOSE OF YOU WHO RESPONDED. BEST, heinrich
Heinrich,
It's been a month and a half on the Global Dorber rod for me. They have the blank, but misplaced my personal info.
The Snowbee rod arrived today. It's a nice looking green blank with a very nice reel seat. Very smooth casting rod. Both the Snowbee and Global Dorber will be used for fishing the wee wets in the North Country tradition.

Good evening Gemrod,
Mate what would you like to know about turning that 3w 10foot rod into a fantastic light Trout Spey or Switch rod ?
It is a shame the rod blank is only a 2 pc item, and therefore the frieght charges to Australia would be over the moon, other wise I would have ordered one, a blank, before you posted !
Kind regards,
UB
Ron, the fella in the shop said 4-6 weeks, he also said he was working on two 4 weights, could one of them be yours? I ordered single foot guides, oversize tip, translucent wraps and alignment dots.
Mr. Uncle Barry,
What I wanna know about a spey rod? The whole bannana.
I will get off this thread and Ask quesions about bluilding a spey rod in the rod building forum.
Jim
alias Gemrd
I built a 10 ft 3 wt. I find that I have to have a fairly good amount of line out to load the rod.
That just might be due to my casting ability. Makes longer casts nicely. 25 foot casts are a pain.

Since your looking into long rods you might want to check these out. There is a small rod company that started up in New Hampshire in 2004, that got together with Ian James to create a Czech Nymph rod for the Canadian Youth Fly Fishing Team for the World Youth Fly Fishing Competition in Czechoslovakia this June. They now offer it for sale and I've had a look at it. I get to test it out when I'm back in June. This is that rod: http://www.greatbayrods.com/EMG%20SERIES.html
The best part...it's made in the good ol' USA...and they are affordable.
Ian is the fellow that taught me how to fly fish, and I know a couple of the young men on the youth team. Great bunch of boys...and this is a great company. It's nice to see a US company help out some boys here in Canada. Canadians have a tough go, trying to gather support for any athletic teams, but especially fly fishing. These kids save to go to these events, out of pocket. They also pay for their own training and gear unless someone steps up, like Ian and Great Bay. There really are no Canadian based companies, to support them and the US companies support the US teams. So my hats go off to Great Bay Fly Rods and Ian James (coach), for doing this for our (Canada's) youth team.
Flybugpa,
Hopefully one of the 4 wgts is mine. I like to use site sponsors whenever possible. While talking with Denny Conrad last night he mentioned that Global Dorber has had to make some changes due to a death in the family. That may account for things being amiss right now. Still looking forward to a great rod.

New company just came out, Guideline!!!
One of the local FF clubs had a casting clinic last week and we had a riot playing with the Beulah switch rods. While they don't make a 3 wt the 4/5 wt 10' 6" switch rod would make a wonderful light trout rod and the price is not prohibitive for a quality rod: http://www.beulahflyrods.com/switchrods.html
OK, I can see the uses for highsticking. I was once with a guide who talked about his love for highstick nymphing and was going to have a couple 11' rods made just for that. Very interesting thread....
