Yep heard that as well. I am told the store here in Nampa is one that is closing. To bad good folks there and just a couple of miles from my house. they have not been open for a year yet. I imagine there will be some good sales going on inthe next 30 days or so. I am going to miss it cause their prices were cheaper then the store in Boise.
That stinks! SW has become my favorite store, and they are liquidating ours according to the link you posted. BUMMER! :-(
Our local store is going to the Canadian Company, now its all going to be aboot and ay etc. I wont be able to understand the clerks at all ;)
Actually I don't know what to expect, new store new management, don't know what brands they will be selling or if they will keep the same format.
But I have seen this with other companies who try to grow big too fast, at least all of them aren't going under.

that really does stink Ol' Blue. When ever I have someone in the hospital down in Wichita, which is at least a couple times a year, they get special visits from the pastor, just so I can go to Sportsmans warehouse. This may not cause me to do fewer visits, but I won't be nearly so excited about going.

The paper today had a short story on it, and they did say that our store is on the short list of locations that could be reopened in the future. I guess that is better than nothing.
Looks like the Idaho Falls store is going to be gone Johnson. Bummer!
I understand that the Nampa and Pocatello stores are closing. The remaining Idaho stores will be Boise, Twin Falls and Idaho Falls.Quote:

I really hate to see big chains like this in the process of going under. While our stores out here in the northwest may stay open under a new owner, who knows what happens to the employees. All those employees at the 23 stores that are closing are being dumped into a job market that has few openings.

I live like 10 minutes from the ORIGINAL store. It isn't on either list, so I guess they are going to try to keep it going. Sure need to get some fresh stock however, or nothing is going to help them.
Same goes for the Idaho Falls store. Still staying open, but they better get some merchandise soon. Hope things work out.Quote:

I belive it probly mostly for buying power, they have been buying sporting goods store up here in canada for a couple years and opened a large Store in Red Deer alberta not long ago. They want to compete with bass pro (opening april 9th in calgary cant wait to get my 28 cup coffee purculator) and you need to be able to buy at very compeitive price to do that. Cost of outdoors stuff in canada is INSANE compared to what we can get if for down there with shipping and exchange, so it should give us comsumer a break.
Apparently the one in Tucson isn't on either list, so maybe they will also stay open.
They've been 'open' for a few years now...I have noticed that their selections have reduced considerably, and that resupply of out of stock items is either slow or non existant. We fly tyers seem to be picky folks in general, and the last coupel of times I've been in there they were 'out' of waht I wanted...AND.. they'd just moved something else onto the pegs where what I was looking for was supposed to be...I know that the 'reordering' is supposedly done by computer, but I always wonder if no one 'sees' empty spaces, how do they know that they 'need' to reorder?

Buddy...I think that is controlled at the register by computer.
I suspect the lack of restocking means they are in trouble:-(.
When they close stores they may be moving stock from the closed stores to the ones they are keeping open. They probably aren't reordering from suppliers until they know what they have in other stores. Hopefully they get on with it.
Has anyone done business with the Canadian company who is buying some of the stores? from there vision mission statement it looks like were geting ourselves a feed store

Had a buddy stop by ours(Rogers, Ar) today and he picked up some stuff. Said it was worse than WalMart at Christmas. I did have him load up on some flies for me..... 20% off .89 per fly means 40 flies for $35. Hate to see them go, but hope they get replaced by something better.

I was in our local store this afternoon, only change I could see was as of now there not taking Sportsman's Warehouse gift cards but a sign said they were working out the details.

I emailed UFA re what they intended to do with the stores they obtained from Sportmans Warehouse, I received this nice reply
Thank you for your email. UFA has indeed acquired 15 Sportsman's Warehouse locations. The specific locations we've acquired fit with our outdoor-adventure marketing and long-term financial strategies. In other words, we intend to keep them as outdoor stores. In fact, for now, it will pretty much be business as usual. The locations will operate as part of UFA's Outdoor Adventure division.
Looks like I still have a place to pick up my tying supplies

I was in the Ankeny SW tonight, looked like a ghost town in the FF department. There is no mention of this one closing down. Personally I think it should, just hasn't been the same since a couple key people left.
I stopped at the Ankeny, IA store after work tonight to check out their story. One of the clerks told me they were told this store would stay open. They were also told about the sale and closing of the others. Other than that she didn't didn't know much or have any idea what the future held for them.
Earlier our club met with their management on what they should do to rework the fly fishing department. At that time (before collapse of the sale of everything) they were in high hopes that the new owners would make things right.
I haven't heard what their thoughts are now since they are staying with the American owners.
Time will tell I guess

Well I hate to hear that. While we don't have a SW close to us I traded at the one in Idaho Falls for a number of years when we lived in NW Wyoming. It was a booming place then, (5 years ago).

I visited Sportsmans Warehouse in Wichita last month. I was surprised how few customers were in the store. Even the Bass Pro Shop near Dallas was extremely slow. The employees were wondering when a big layoff will hit them between the eyes. Times are tough.

Thanks John. For all out there, I just want to say as a Tier for many years, I do look for QUALITY material. To the point that the price is not all that important, but every little break helps.
Jimmy's has some TOP NOTCH material. And the prices very fair!

The Lafayette store has had their GOB sale on for two weeks. 10-20% off 'selected' items. Going to 30% off of 'selected' items this week. I know that as I voice their commercials and live down the road, so I stop in every other day. Not sure if all the stores are on the same GOB pricing schedule.
