I am looking forward to starting fly fishing this spring and I was hoping if you guys can give me some recommendations on a good fly rod and reel combo. Something between 90-$150. By the way great board.:D

Yes , there is a Scientific American Combo at Wal Mart for around $70.00 that is a very good deal for a beginner. I comes with rod, reel, line , backing and leader. Judging from prior posts on here, It casts very well for an outfit that is under $100.00. I got one and am very pleased with it.
It comes in a 6wt Rod and line.
Welcome! We really need to know what type of water you will be fishing and for what species.
Pedram,
First of all, an UNofficial welcome to FAOl. In reference to your inquiry, SEEK NEAREST SHELTER IMMEDIATELY. You will shortly be pummeled with helpful responses.

For a fly rod in your price range I would suggest a White River Hobbs Creek in 5 or 6 wt.
You can get this rod combo at Bass Pro Shop. The combo comes complete with rod, reel, backing, WF fly line and leader.
I just started fly fishing in July of 07 and have already bought 2 of these rods one in 6wt and one in 8wt.
I have also bought a 4wt Whit River Classic Combo it runs just under $200.00 complete

Oh and welcome to the board
I won't offer any suggestions, because you'll be getting enough of them, I'm sure!
But, I DID want to welcome you to FAOL!
There's nothing, in the obsession of fly fishing, that you won't be able to learn here, (save for pure on-water experience of course), so "ask away" and enjoy yourself!
I have to say Gnu Bee Flyer is right on the money. I had one for 2 years, my son has had one for 3 years one of my friends has had one for about 3 years also. they are a complete outfit for abut $70.00 and work just fine. Get some casting lessons from someone buy or learn to tie a few basic flies and you are in business.
Oh yea forgot to mention: If you are married take a good look at your spouse and convince them to sign a prenup. Visit your friends and remember what they look like, Take everything you own and say bye bye cause you are about to enter the zone called fly fishing and you will become so wraped up in it that all other life will no longer matter ROTFLMAO WELCOME TO THE ADDICTION AND THE FAMILY OF FAOL
Pedram,
Welcome to the board! I'll put in a third on the Wal-Mart Scientific Angler's combo. Some of the ones I saw at our local Wal-Mart even had a small selection of flies. In addition to the flies and rod combo you should pick up a bottle of floatant for your dry flies, SA and Loon make good, inexpensive floatants, and some line dressing/cleaner.
Jerry Brumfield, a.k.a. Dotman, sells a line treatment called ZipCast. I think it is the best product out there for cleaning and treating your line. You can also get fly reel dots off of him here:

see if you can locate a St. Croix combination of rod & reel (which is set up with backing, fly line, leader). I have purchased a few for student use & found them to be quite nice for the money.
Good luck & start saving $$$$... you'll probably never own enough equipment.
later,
An Oregonian
Pedram - Welcome aboard. Looks like you are getting plenty of suggestions from the guys. If you send me your snail mail address, via PM, I'll send you a couple of dozen flies to help you get started.
Tim
Pedram, welcome. I have used a 5-wt Hobbs Creek outfit for several years. It IS an acceptable outfit, especially for the price and even more so if you can catch it on sale. However, at the Michigan Fish-In last July, it took me about 1 minute to realize just how much better a rod the Scientific Angler rigs are. Castwell taught me how to cast with my off hand in 5 minutes. (I am the guy standing next to Superman in the pictures.) The rod was a breeze to cast with and I can heartily recommend it for a first time rod. See if you can find one already rigged up. If you can make it to an FAOL Fish-In, try to. I have only been to one and it went out of its way to be friendly to all levels of fly fishers of both genders.
Now let's talk about your upcoming addiction to fly tying... ;)
Ed
Another vote for the Scientific Anglers. Beware of WalMart's cheap setup that runs $25-35, though. It isn't any good at all.
Pedram,
Welcome to FAOL. Just go out and buy a 5/6 combo that fits your budget and you'll be fine. They're all about the same, and if you get hooked like most of us, that will become your backup outfit as you progress in the sport. If you really wanted to be a trend setter on this board, you could build yourself a 5wt rod in a weekend for $65 plus shipping. All it takes is the ability to walk and chew gum, and you can build a rod that will be as good as one costing twice that price. There's plenty of time for that down the road...maybe next winter. I better get out of here before I get yelled at for preaching rod building.

Don't feel bad about accepting offers of free flies. Just gives us a good excuse to tie more. Welcome to FAOL and the flyfishing addiction.
Pedram I understand your feelings about getting flys from someone else for free. I can tell you panman made a good offer to ya his flies are awesome. Get used to the offers of free stuff it happens here all the time. I can not tell ya how much stuff I have gotten for free or at a good price from the great folks here, and have done the same for many myself. You see some where in the past we have all gotten something from someone here to get started on something and we are just paying it forward. I can say that if I had not found this site I would not be fly fishing anymore. Everyone here has helped me improve and enjoy this wonderful addiction called fly fishing. Kick back relax, have a maple bar, need a refill on that coffee I am going that way.
Pedram;
First let me welcome you aboard. As you can see everyone is very helpfull here.
pm me with your snail mail address and I'll send a couple of furled leaders to go with panman's fly's.
Pedram -
Welcome.
Harleybob hit the nail on the head when he mentioned "paying it forward."
If others had not helped me from day one, I may never have had a day two.
Don't be bashful, and earn the opportunity to pay it forward by accepting what others offer you now.
