When gluing the two layers of Magnum bunny strips together is this done only over the length of the hook itself or are the two strips to be glued together all the way to the tip of the tail?
I suspect the latter but want to be sure. Thanks

Keep in mind that adhesives tend to "stiffen" the action of bunny strips. The hair and hide both need to be completely soaked with H2O for them to undulate properly.Quote:

GLUE! LOL I sew mine together...for real, but I also put a stinger hook in the tail. I have glued with 3M spray on and it works really well. No stiffness.
Thanks for the link! Very helpful! :DQuote:

Also, great link Normand. That's a very clear tutorial.

Isn't super glue a bit stiff? Or is that why you'd use small drops instead of a continuous line?
Yep, just a tiny dab (applied with the tip of a toothpick) will do ya because it spreads a little when the two halves are pressed together. Using too much will completely ruin the action of the fur.Quote:

I don't use to many double bunnies.
But a tip is don't use Brush-on super glue all the way down. I tied a few double bunnies that way and they were useless and stiff as boards. :?
I know that's already been said But I had to put my .02 in anyways.

Get a needle with a big enough eye to thread the mono through. Start at the end of the strip (skin that is) stick the needle through both strips, up and down with loose stitches, lay the mon across the top of the hook and tie it down, then lay the top layer of zonker across the top and tir it down at the eye. I like to add the Marabou or Guinea color to spice things up.
This is an old Steelheaders trick.:

FG, I followed most of that but when securing the mono to the hook are you wrapping the thread through the fur of the lower strip?

When wet the unjalate (sp) and look sooo kewl. This is by far my go to fly to find the fish. Different colors make all the difference. A tan/White with red flash for a CHUB and check this out....a burnt orange/red off the bottom a great CRAYFISH!
Hey FG,
What is that you are using to hold that fly in the photo? It looks like a bent X-acto knife.
I use Tear Mender glue on the whole length of the strip. It remains very flexible after it cures and does not inhibit the movement of the rabbit strips. It is also a completely water proof glue.
