Geography swap - swap closed - 50 entries
Ok, folks! Here we go! I'm going to make this work going with the big version. You can reference this thread if you need the background. http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/v...p?f=24&t=19373
Everyone should plan on tying 65 flies max (less if we don't fill). I will take one participant to represent each state or province out there, and up to 4 other people from other international locations. (I am combining Nunvut/Yukon/NW Territory due to demographics. If we have multiple entry requests here, I can break them out in place of an international spot or vice versa. I will take multiple international entries and strike a state entry until a full 65 is reached if need be. So sign up if you are interested.) Each person is to provide flies that represent a pattern that is effective in the state/province they sign up for. Warmwater/coldwater/saltwater is acceptable. The only real restriction that I am going to ask for is that everyone keep an eye on the list, and try not to repeat patterns unless it is a significant variation (not just the color). I don't really want to see 50 variations of wooleys/weenies/sanjuans, etc. Try to come up with something somewhat specific to your region if possible. I know that it is tough to do that in this age of information, but I think everyone understands the concept here, and I'm trusting in everyone's judgement/goodwill on this to make this a really cool and enormous swap for everyone involved.
Sign up deadline will be December 31 or when we fill; your 65 flies should be to me by February 8. This swap is based on a theme that really needs to be completed, so PLEASE don't sign up unless you really intend to follow through with this project. If you cannot, notice should be given ASAP, and 1 week before doesn't really allow time for replacements on this one. There are a lot of flies to tie on this one, but I've given everyone 4 full months to tie and ship. As always, send your flies in a large crushproof container (altoids tins won't work on this one!), with return packaging and adequate postage (no metered mail).
For this swap in particular, please make sure all of your flies are toetagged with at least your username, state/province and pattern name on them. There will be so many involved here that if you don't, it will really stink trying to figure out what those flies are.
And also, as always, I do not expect extra goodies or flies--I do this because I like it.
Here the list. Sign up for whatever regions are available that you want to tie for. I will jump in first for Kansas. My pattern is tbd.

I will be here to add signup spots through the weekend, but will be out of town Monday through Wednesday for the FishIn, so I won't be able to acknowledge your entry or PM information until I return.

Re: Geography swap - Let's do this thing! Only 55 spots left.
I would like in on this one representing Montana. This should really be interesting and I am looking forward to it. Pattern will be an X-caddis of some variety.
-
Re: Geography swap - Let's do this thing! Only 54 spots left.
-
Re: Geography swap - Let's do this thing! Only 54 spots left.
I would also say that it is reasonable to assume that all of the spots will most likely not fill. You all might consider holding off on tying all of the flies at this point, so you don't end up with 15 or 20 extra when the swap closes.
-
Re: Geography swap - Let's do this thing! Only 54 spots left.
Naw! tie'em all ..if we don't need them we can use them for other swaps
-
Re: Geography swap - Let's do this thing! Only 54 spots left.
The fly I'll be tying is plastic bead caddis pupa
-
Re: Geography swap - Let's do this thing! Only 54 spots left.
I agree with HCMiller, but it would sure be nice to see this swap fill up, I think everyone would have a lot of fun with this one. It would be nice to have a set of flies from all the states and countries. I have mine a 3rd of the way done.
To other tiers that are considering this swap, jump in I know you will all have fun with this one. John

hehehe i love how it says "ONLY 54 spots left" ...
-
Re: Geography swap - Let's do this thing! Only 53 spots left.
PM sent to NukeMaster.
My wife saw the "54 spots left" in passing today also. She thinks we are all crazy. :D
I would love to see all of the spots fill, but we'll just have to see how it goes. I haven't tied any yet. I spent the afternoon tying the last of the flies for the MO FishIn. I finally reached a point where I had to say if what I have won't catch fish, it isn't the tackle's fault.

Re: Geography swap - Let's do this thing! Only 53 spots left.
What happens if two people from the same state want in? Can it be regional (say southwest? and thereby take a bordering state) or can we just wait and tie a pattern that is common from a state or territory that doesn't fill???
I was thinking that I've been busy and didn't know if I wanted to commit this soon....unfortunately or fortunately ibrb in for the Great State of CAL...
What do you think?...I'm sure others that might be in the same position???
Oh and 65 flies for a swap....come on we can add some territories and go for an even 100 .... it's not that many more

i was thinking the same thing, and id ask ol blue first but you could probably sign up for a fly for a state bordering youre own because i imagine like for virginia a fly that works great in northern Virginia will also work well in maryland... just my thoughts. id ask ol blue first though if you could do that.

Re: Geography swap - Let's do this thing! Only 53 spots left.
I don't have a problem with signing up for another state and tying a fly that has worked for you there. As long as it is accurate. Tying a crackleback or a chamois worm to represent the Missouri trout parks would be a good example. No salt water streamers for Montana or anything like that. I will fall back to the assumption of honorable intentions by everyone here since my area of expertise is pretty well limited to, uh, nothing.
If we have a good alternative, especially later in signups, I will be more than happy to substitute catagories to fill up also. For example, we could have both warm water and trout flies from one state to replace a state or province that doesn't sign up. But let's not go there until late in the signups.

[url=http://www.freesmileys.org:e9a0a]http://www.freesmileys.org/emo/shocked003.gif[/url:e9a0a] (26 to 65 is a big jump for me. I ran out of fingers, toes and teeth. Maybe next year! That's all I really have to say about that)
Blaiseboy,
You are in for Vermont. Welcome, and a PM is heading your way.
Greg
We are 1/5 of the way there!

Re: Geography swap - Let's do this thing! Only 52 spots left.
   I'll wait a while and see what fills in and whats left...if there's a pacific northwest state I'll fill in although I know that some of my flies that I've previously sent out have worked in other states....i.e. Prism Stimulator.....
I'll let you know...oh and btw 26 to 65 to 100 is huge "65" is a mega monster swap....100 that's just plain crazy....
-
Re: Geography swap - Let's do this thing! Only 52 spots left.
You're welcome in the swap whenever you decide to go for it. No pressure, though.
-
Re: Geography swap - Let's do this thing! Only 52 spots left.
Ol'Blue...
Now this is a BIG SWAP...
Im in for Missouri..... I'll do a infamous zebra midge (black).. size 20
Just in time for the winter midge hatches...LOL
Leonard..

Re: Geography swap - Let's do this thing! Only 52 spots left.
A little change of pattern I'm going to tie. It's going to be the "Plastic Bead Caddis Pupa". I do not have enough material for the fly I wanted to tie at first.
-
Re: Geography swap - Let's do this thing! Only 52 spots left.
Ol" Blue this is a terrific Idea. I would like to get in on this one I live in southern Ill. but mostly fish in Missouri and therefore I usually only tie for fishing in Missouri. I will tie either a blonde mohair leech or crackleback. If I take the Mo. spot it would leave Illinios open possibly for someone who fishes more in Illinios. I,ll let you make the call.

Re: Geography swap - Let's do this thing! Only 52 spots left.
Well it looks like Night Angler1 beat me to the punch and made the call for us so I will take Illinios. By the way great call with the zebra midge Night Angler1.
Give me some time on the pattern.

Re: Geography swap - Let's do this thing! Only 52 spots left.
You are both in. PMs sent.
I'm heading out the door in a couple of minutes for the Fish In. I'll be back on Wednesday.

Re: Geography swap - Let's do this thing! Only 50 spots left.
Put me down for Alberta. I'm keeping my number of swaps down due to my new job and move, but the due date is feasible for this one. I'll tie a prince nymph for this one.

Re: Geography swap - Let's do this thing! Only 50 spots left.
ol blue;
If it is still open, please sign me up for Nebraska.
Since I have about 600 size 12 hooks, that is the size, but I will have to think about the pattern a bit.
Great Idea!
Thanks,
Don
[added]
I am going to tie one of my favorites. A good batch of SHWAPF flies in size 12. (They'll be on wet hooks, but you can fish them however you feel.) :)
