New Tyers Swap >PICTURES NOW POSTED HERE
I will open this to seven (7) new tyers plus myself for a total of eight participants. If there is a call for more we can have another swap down the line.
Please read the Important Swap Items at the top of the Swaps page. Be prompt with your questions and I will get back to you soonest.
Tie eight flies of your choice. You will receive one of your own flies in the return shipment to you. No duplicates please so if someone chooses an elk hair caddis, then you choose another style of fly wet or dry.
This is my first swap as master on FAOL although I have mastered swaps elsewhere to good success.
Sign-up by August 24th. Mail flies to reach me before the deadline on September 8th which is a Saturday. It is a good idea to begin tying immediately because time has a way of passing quickly. If the swap fills right away I ask that you get your flies to me soonest so we can get fishing with them all.
>>>>>>>>If I receive your flies after the due date I will return them to you. Thanks for following the rules and guidelines.<<<<<<<<<

Thanks and have fun tying.

Re: New Tyers Swap >>>Two Spots are available
UPDATE:
I've decided to do Peter Frailey's Feather Body, Soft Hackle (which was a FOTW) not long ago. I'll be tying them in Olive. Thanks!
Re: New Tyers Swap >>>Two Spots are available
i would definitely like in with the yellow sinking spider. ive been tying for two years so im still pretty begginery.
Re: New Tyers Swap >>>ONE spot available
almost a full swap. Tie away, gents.
Re: New Tyers Swap >>>ONE spot available
a mailing tip: I type the return TO: and FROM: labels and include them in the envelope. Then the shipper only has to put the labels over the ones used to send the flies. DDRRedneck asked a good question regarding containers. The Altoids tin works really well and many swappers use those.
If you have not read the Important Swap Items at the top of the forum please do so.

Re: New Tyers Swap >>>ONE spot available
Casey's UCO bead head pheasant tail nymphs are ready to go in the mail. they are really bhpt on steriods!
when we went west this summer, the folks out there told me, "If it doesn't have a bead head and legs, the trout will ignore it." i sat down at the tying table and with a lot of help from the guides managed to concoct what you will receive. a member of another group of anglers came over to the table, curious, so i gave him one. then next day he came up and said, "That was one great fly! 20 trout, 2 and a half hours, and I finally lost it on a huge fish." needless to say i was very pleased. durability had not been my strong point. it did pretty well for me, too. it was decided that the thing needed a name, and the owner of the ranch where this all happened suggested UCO Special. the ranch is Upper Canyon Outfitters (UCO) in Alder, MT. so now you have a fly with a (beginner) story.
you will notice if you go get the exact stuff i used that it is all a size or two heavier than normally used in PA. we were in a hurry in the fly shop. these particular rubber legs are sort of sparkly. try loop dubbing with the peacock herl. it's really durable.
RECIPE:
hook: Dai ichi 1550 or 1560 size 14
bead: gold 7/32 tungsten
thread: Unithread 8/0 black
tail and abdomen: yellow-dyed pheasant tail fibers
rib: Ultra Wire, SM copper
wing case and legs: yellow dyed pheasant tail fibers
thorax: peacock herl, loop-dubbed
rubber legs: silli legs, barred, pump/green/oran SFG345
tight lines, guys! thanks for the idea, Paul. you were right to make the time short. us newbies get excited like little kids. :-)
Re: New Tyers Swap >>>ONE spot available
Casey, sounds like an awesome pattern. I agree--back home almost all of my nymphs had BH and many had legs. Caught a lot more fish on them too.
My Feather Body SH's will be in the mail on Saturday. Got 7 done and ran out of hooks. Buying more tomorrow and then off they go!
Re: New Tyers Swap >>>ONE spot available
Casey, that is some neat history for your fly. Thank you for passing it on to us.
WIld One, I am amazed how often I runout of hooks all the while thinking I have plenty. How can a tyer have too many
hooks?
