Warren and I have talked about having a Fish-In here. Maybe next spring. Spend a couple of days on the Duck and Elk rivers or Bedford Lake.
Any suggestions, ideas, comments, etc??

Jack, you can count me in on this one. It would be a real pleasure just to meet you and Warren. John
Would be there, with bells on!!!!
Nashville is only 11 or 12 hours. I might be persuaded to head over there if my schedule permits.

littlebassy, just told me she would like this one also. John
You could definately count me in! 8)
I told 'em. Just the RUMOR that we might get a Cabela's and the next thing you know, people are talking about fish-ins. ;)
Ohh, Jack that sounds like a great idea! It would be great to go to a fish-in in another state. The pictures you've sent have sure wetted our appetite to check out Tenn. Jean
Nashville's just 3 hours away, Have to convince Mrs. k that i just HAD to go huummm.
Mark k,
Your WIFE needs to be convinced that SHE needs to go to Nashville?!?! That shouldn't take too much effort! 8)
Betty, My Wife has health issues and is unable to go much of anywhere, we used to go everywhere together. She even spent a four day weekend with me at Mammoth Springs Ar. in a leaky tent and it raind until 30 minutes befor we left for home.
Mark k
Hey Jack, that sounds like a super idea...........All Brad and I need are a date and location.
Bill
p.s. I know we already have the invitation.
Hmmm.....I have a sister and brother-in-law who live in Gallatin, TN and need to visit them......and a good friend in Asheville and a neice and nephew in Hendersonville.......I'd sure make it if work and gas prices permit.
Vic
:D Jack,
As the other half(3/4's) said sounds like a winner to me.
Bill
Sounds good to me too. I know you'll keep us all posted.
Mike
Wow! I didn't expect so many responses so quickly!!
The fishing in mid May is good just about anytime of day. You may even get into some of those Shell Crackers that Warren has shown you
Lots of oppertunities to use your canoes or 'toons too.
Unlike most Fish-In we have no Lodge to use as a central gathering point but I'm sure we can overcome that problem.
:D Jack we are planning to move to the Nashville area shortly. So this sounds great.
Mark, remember that Tullahoma is another hour to two east of you. It depends on traffic, who's driving, just where you are going, etc...Quote:

His septic system backed up so we had to get a hotel room that I had not planned on. Also ended up buying him a new fridge. Kids will they ever grow up?

What do you think about the Caney and Center Hill Lake? Fairly central in Tn and something for everyone.
Big Bad Wolf,
The Caney is a really good river to fish and is only about a 2.5 hour drive from here where Jack and I are. The only bad thing about the Caney is that they have multible generators on it and it is very hard to plan a fishing trip there since they run their generators a little just about 7 days per week. It is just something you will have to keep checking and see what they are doing with their schedule. A friend of mine fished it over the weekend and they had a bear come down to the river to visit them! That is the first documented bear that has been seen in Smith County! It sure made the news!! The Elk River here where Jack and I are has generators too, but, unlike the Caney, they usually do not generate during Saturday and Sunday which will leave the river open for daytime fishing. The Duck River here has no generation capabilities but if we get a lot of rain, they will open the flood gates and blow the river out of its banks. Both rivers here were just made for Hobie Cats, canoes, flatbottoms or pontoon boats. You can pretty much plan a 1/2 day trip or a whole day trip. I have a Hobie Cat and a 10' flatbottom boat and will be able to assist anyone with a float trip.
 Whachew talkin' bout, WarrenP?!? Bears? Next thing you know you'll be talking about snakes, too!
Betty,
Yep, bears!!! Snakes, yep, we have them too!! I have been told we have rattlesnakes, cottonmouths and copperheads, but, I have lived here for 26 years and I can honestly say I have not seen anything of them. Now I have seen several water snakes, but, not the ones that could hurt you. Down here, most people call all snakes they see in the water a cottonmouth, but, in fact, they are harmless water snakes. I know we have the bad ones, but, I have not met any yet and hopefully, never will.
Count me in I am on the west end of the state but love to travel.
Alright, now,,, let's see some new blood volunteering and get this thing done. Should be a fantastic one; lots of great talent in that region.
I'm not volunteering for ANYTHING! EVER! All it took was one hitch in the Army as a draftee to cure that. However, Jack and Warren.....I cannot ever promise anything as too many things influence my time.
But, believe it or not....I might make this Fish In! That would be so good for me.
i would love to come too. huntsville is only about an hour or hour and-a-half from you guys (i even work in fayetteville).
tar heel,
You are closer than you think. Huntsville, Al. is only a 45 minute drive from my home. Fayetteville is only 22 miles from my home. :)
well, i'm actually in madison so it takes me exactly 45 minutes to get to lincoln county high school. although, now that this topic is up (and if you don't mind a brief detour)...which should be the first on my TN list, below normandy dam, or tim's ford? school just ended yesterday, so when i get back in town next wednesday i'll have the whole summer to fish.
tar heel,
Both are fishing good at the present time. Bear in mind, as the Duck River below Normandy warms up, the trout will not be there and the Duck River will become a warm water fishery and they will quit stocking it with trout. There will always be cold water below Tim's Ford dam due to the generation. At the present time, they are not generating a lot because they are trying to bring Tim's Ford lake up to summer pool level and with the drought going on, it will be awhile. I have been told that we need at least 2 more inches of rain to have enough water to bring Tim's Ford to summer pool level. The Elk River is running very clear and there are fish to be caught. I did fish the Duck River last night after work and caught 14 trout, several bluegill, shellcrackers and one crappie. Just make sure to check the water temperature when fishing the Duck. It should be good the rest of this month.
I would definitly come if I am able. Would be greeeeaat

Count me in, I live about 2 hours away. Looking forward to meeting everyone and catching some fish.
Good Luck

Don Jackson, custom rod builder (bamboo & graphite) and certified casting instructor has offered to open his shop for a rod building seminar and to also give casting lessons.
Don is a terrific instructor and a good friend. When I told him of our plan to have a Fish - In here he voluntered to help before I could ask!! His rod building shop will make you drool, a "must see" operation!
There is an Inn and Campground in Lynchberg that Warren and I will be checking out. There is a lot to see and do there which would be great for the non fishing spouses.
For the warm water fly fishers there is Bedford Lake. Bass, Blue Gills and Shell Crackers. Bring your canoes, tubes, 'toons, etc.
More later.
Bob and I just returned from "Jack's place" in TN a week ago. We had a great time fishing and Jack and Warren have it mastered. There is alot to do there in TN close by and the whole family would enjoy it. Also Warren's wife Deb is a gem. A warm and friendly lady very skilled at quilting and knows all the hot spots for shopping. A must for your TN fishing and family vacation plans. Thanks again Jack and Warren P. What great hosts!
Karla,
I am glad you and Bob had a good time! Deb really enjoyed the shopping/yard sale trip you all took together. Remember, that you all are welcome back anytime. There is lots more to see, so, plan to stay longer! It was great to finally meet the two of you since I had heard so much about both of you from Jack.
COUNT ME IN !!!!!
I will be there , it's on the list for next years vacations.
A few guys from our tU chapter fished the South Holston and Watuga this past april
what a blast.

Cincy to Nashville is only a 5-ish hour drive...would LOVE to make it!!!
Looking forward to more info about it..
I'll give away some of the tricks to fishing the Duck or Elk Rivers!! Deep soft hackles or spiders, some tied reverse (Olive works well along with brown). Vanish "Transition" furled leaders with 5 - 6' of Fluorcarbon tippet will do the job. Zebra midges for the Elk in mid May also.
Karla is right there is a lot to do and see down here. It would be a great time for the whole family.
P.S. The yard sales start on Thursday!!
Hey is this maybe a yearly event???
I could maybe consider a trip over the ditch to have a go at some US trout but I would need to plan way ahead of time...
