I've heard of "e glass" but not sure what it is. Some folks in the chat room like it. Good looking rod at a decent price. Checking the guys profile I see he's sold others with good feed back. I'm tempted myself
Looks to me that the reel seat and grip alone are worth the asking price.
I will be trying this rod out pretty soon. I just ordered a bunch of fly & spin blanks from rod-blanks.com, and I picked up a 2 PC 6 FT E-GLASS ULTRALITE SPIN ROD BLANK 2-6 LBS for $5. That's correct, FIVE Dollars. I've spent more money on dumber things (I think?), so I figured it was worth a shot for a fin. I'll post pictures on the rod building board when I get started on it. I'm building a couple of spin rods for the grandkids, so I figured I'd throw one in for myself for when I get too senile to fly cast.

Today there is "E" glass and "S" glass. E glass is a little slower than S glass. Lamiglass, McFarland etc. . "S" glass is Diamondglass, Steffan Brothers. Supposedly S glass is stronger.Quote:

Jerry, not sure, but the yellow multi-piece rod... is it not E glass???
E glass is just regular fiberglass. S glass is a later generation of fiberglass that is stiffer than E glass but not as stiff as graphite. IMO, if you want the glass experience, stick with E glass.
E glass all the way for me!
I have a McFarland Spruce Creek 7'0" 3pc 4wt built on an e-glass blank. It is absolutely one of the sweetest, smoothest casting rods I ever fished, bar none!
Take a walk on the light side:

The E and S is a modulus designation.
E glass is 10 million
S glass is 12 million
1st. generation graphite is 33-million modulus. So, you can see that the glasses are nice easy "fishing" rods
as opposed to stiff casting rods.
I have the Fenwick FF806, FF756, FF706 and now the FF605.
Glass rods are stronger than you'd ever imagine and that big "C" with a nice fish is awesome!
www.fiberglassflyrodders.com is a site solely for fiberglass; give it a look.
Now, for fiberglass feel on your graphite rod, over-line two weights and slow down your stroke until you have the rhythm and
you'll be able to make a decision from there as to glass rods.
There's an interesting article written by Gary Loomis in the December 2003 FLW Outdoors Magazine that dispells the myth about
over-lining. Fellow broke his rod and tried to convince Gary he did it landing a big fish. Gary took the exact same rod and had the guy
bend it while Gary held it. Then, Gary stood on it and had the guy pull up on the rod....NOTHING....so, overlining's not going to shatter a modern graphite rod. Slamming it in the door or with a big Cone Head Muddler will !!!!!!!
Enjoy, Jim

I have been told by a good source that these rods are built on Forecast E-glass spinning blanks. I have been an advocate of these blanks for about 4 years now and they make great little flyrods. I have built the 1 pc Forecast 601, 720, and 780 and the 2 pc E-glass 721-2 that is sold on Ebay by C&M Customtackle.
Forecast discontinued the 2 pc blanks and only offers the 1pc. I believe the rod in the link above was a 1pc blank that was cut and a spiggot ferrule added to it.
These blanks are awesome and I would recommend them to anyone. The 720 (5/6wt) and 721-2 (6/7) are staples in my arsenal and are perfect for getting a fly under a canopy or for fishing out of a kayak. The 780 is a 6'6" that finishes out to a nice 3/4wt but at 1pc is a bit of a pain to transport. I am all for outside the box thinking and low cost, bang for the buck options and these blanks not only fit that mold, but make excellent rods to boot.
Here's a few pics of my rods:

There are several topics in the fiberglassflyrodders forum about these rods and I reccomend reading them to get a better idea of what these rods are all about.
Good Luck,

Joe and Lou - Just purchased one of the 6' 2 pc E-glass blanks from rod-blanks.com. Joe - have you received your order yet, and if so, can you tell me what the butt and tip diameters are? Lou - do you have experience building on these blanks? The guy from rod-blanks.com said that the blanks are "very similar" to the Forecast SPG721-2 blanks and that they have a butt over tip ferrule. He also said that the butt diameter is quite a bit smaller than the Forecast SPG720 blank. I have one of those and it's butt diameter is 0.46 inches. He said that the 721-2 is more like 0.375 inches at the butt. Would this still throw a 6/7 wt line then like the Forecast 721-2?
Hi Jim,
I have not built on the blanks from rod-blanks. com, however since Forecast doesn't make the 721-2 any longer, I believe the blanks I built from C&M Customtackle are probably the same as you got. It should throw a 6/7 line. I also think that the 720-1 butt diameter and the 721-2 which you bought are going to spec out to be very similar. These rods definitely have thick butts, but the tapers are really good for such a low cost blank and I think you'll like this rod allot.
These are really unique in that they have just the right amount of flex to work well as fly rods, but are definitely not noodles by any means. You would be hard pressed to find a 6' 5-7 wt rod in graphite that wasn't a broom stick.
HTH,
Lou
