It was my first project rod, built off of a Lamiglass Firecane, 7 foot, 3weight, 2-piece blank. I found a full-wells grip that was slimmer and smaller than any other they had, and the accouterments to complete the build at a total of $150. Short of one item I failed to purchase...a hook keeper. Which would later nearly ruin things. It was wrapped by hand using a shoebox notched for a jig, and although the finish on my wraps were not perfect...it was mine. I dressed it up with a Ross Colorado #0 and a Cortland 444 Peach Double-taper 3Wt line. The result? Pure Nirvana! I felt I had found my small stream trout rod. I had no idea how right I was.

I think I like the looks of the current half Wells better than the original full Wells. It reminds me of the grip on my old Heddons.

Its a beautiful rod from what I can see. I personally love the full wells grip but the half wells is just as beautiful.

May I ask where you obtained the blank?

I purchased the Blank in Anglers Workshop in Woodland Washington. Right near the Lamiglass plant. But as I mentioned in the Blog....it was more than 20 years ago. You can still find them on EBAY now and then.

My father built me a Lamiglass 4wt in 1972
Still use it.

I can't find any reference to Lamiglas Firecane blanks.
I have communicated with several folks in the know about Lamiglas
and no one has ever heard of the Firecanes? Were they private labelled
through Anglers Workshop?

No, they were a standard line for 4-5 years by Lamiglas.

Here is a link to the same blanks. Lamiglas produced them as blanks I believe under the label "firecane". They also offered rods built under different name on the same blank as a factory rod. Can't recall the name of them though. I believe the blanks were only available through Anglers Workshop. There was a 6' 3wt and 7' 3wt, both 2-peice. I believe the 7'6" 4wt and 8' 5wt were 3-piece. It's been a while though. But the factory rod and the blank were one-in-the-same.

So, as I understand it, the blanks sold to Anglers Workshop from Lamiglas were designated Firecane...a Lamiglas named product?

As I recall. They were the exact same specs as their factory built rods.
