I use a lot of 6x, 6.5x and 7x tippet when fishing. I have been using the Orvis knot for about 7 years. No problems with it at all. I saw a video of the Davy knot and it looks like it would be easier to tie and also looks like it would have a smaller knot. Does anyone here fish the Davy knot? What are your thoughts/opinions?

I use it all the time, that and the double Davy.
Like any other knot you have to test it when done.
Not hard to miss putting the end through the right way but if the tail end sits at 90 degrees and holds it is good to go.
It has been a winner for me.
I use it because I can tie it very quickly. I'm also primarily fishing tailwaters with small midges on light tippet. I agree that you must test the knot, but I can't say that I've had many failures at the knot itself.
I use it on all my flies except streamers.

I use the double Davy knot quite a bit. I have had problems with the single Davy knot slipping, especially if the wire of hook eye is large relative to the size of the tippet. The Davy knot depends on a small wire hook for it to cinch up properly. I found it a little fiddly to tie until I came up with a method of weaving the tag end of tippet through to form the knot.

Thanks to all for your thoughts and opinions. I will be testing this knot in the next couple of weeks. I will probably start with the double Davey knot and got from there. I primarily fish a tailrace with either a #22 or #24 midge, or a dry/dropper. What appeals to me is how quickly this knot can be tied as well as the strength.. Hopefully it will be as easy when the temps are cold and the hadns are numb.
use Orvis knot the most. IF I tie a DV knot, I'll tie a double DV knot; I've had failures when test tying single DV knot. DV knot recommended for small size tippets only and the 90 degree tippet end on the hook eye
I've tested all the knots and Davy is the best.
I use it exclusively. As with most knots, on the occasion that it slips it's my fault.
I fished in some Virginia streams from Tuesday thru Saturday in super wind chill conditions and used the Davy knot without fail. I used it for nymphs, midges, dries, and streamers with no issue at all. It has become my go to knot. The cold weather was brutal but I was able to easily tie knots and land fish up to 20 inches.
Well, I got to get away and fish for a couple of days and used the Davy Knot exclusively. I am happy to report no knot failures. I did fish the double Davy. I really like how easy the knot is to tie, especially when it's cold and the wind is blowing. Thanks to all for your input and advice.

Interesting..... I been out of circulation for a few years, and lots of changes and new stuff has come along. Like the Davy knot... I've been tying this knot for probably 20 years. I came up with it on my own. I've showed my son, friends, grandkids, etc. great knot. Neat to see somebody else came up with it as well, and has passed it along by far better than I ever would have, and gave it a name so it can be easily referenced and discussed.... Bravo, Davy ! Only thing I would add, wetting the line with the tip of my tongue lets me pull it tight better. I do the same with all knots, blood, orvis, etc. mostly if my knots fail, it's my fault.

My thumbs favor the Uni Knot over the Orvis Knot. . . .
I've been using the Davy Knot EXCLUSIVELY now for four years now. In that time I've had two failures...and I can say for certain one was a mis sized hook to line ratio...the other was because I hadn't checked the knot beforehand. Two missed fish because of a badly tied knot isn't bad at all. I lost a lot more using other knots. I use this on the tiniest of flies, like #28s to the largest that I currently fish which is a #4, rarely a #2. I've tested this on Chinook, Redfish, carp, steelhead...all with great success, and I'm satisfied that it's the best knot for me. It's easy to tie. So easy I can tie it in the dark. I don't have to count turns or even wet the line before seating it.
If you are using a smaller tippet on a bigger hook, you will have slippage. TEST the knot. If you are not sure that it's well seated, tie the double Davy.
