2008 Michigan Fish-In
Ok All,
It's time to see if there is intrest in a Michigan Fish-In for 2008.
Location will be the same, AuSable River, Grayling, Mi.
Gates Lodge HQ.
Dates 30 June thru 5 or 6 July.
If you think this sound's like a Good Idea We(mainly Jean) will get started working on it.

Re: 2008 Michigan Fish-In
As Tony the Tiger said, "It's Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr 8" Ha, ha, ha, ha.... I can hardly wait. Is it to early to call Rusty for a reservation????

Re: 2008 Michigan Fish-In
Just got off the phone with EdD count him in too.
-
Re: 2008 Michigan Fish-In
Now lemme see, ONLY if JC and LF again come a day late so that I can get at least ONE perch dinner at the Lodge. AND if Jackster just happens to develop a "sore" right arm where we ( all others) can have a chance at the long cast competition. If those parameters are met, I/we will be there.
Mark
PS: Actually, I have thought it over. We WILL be there regardless. ( I had to edit) God willing!
-
Re: 2008 Michigan Fish-In
I plan on being there and hopefully being able to asist the planners at some point. My first suggestion is that eveyone buy Jackster a drink before the casting competition. That should bring him down to a competetive level :). barring that, get out there and start practicing everyone.

Re: 2008 Michigan Fish-In
Bill
Sounds like we need a planning meeting at Cabelas 8)

Re: 2008 Michigan Fish-In
A Fish In in Michigan with that group? You know I want in.
-
Re: 2008 Michigan Fish-In
AND, just to unswell the heads of the organizers and participants of the 2007 ID fish-in, we should try to TOP their attendance of 61. :) Remember, records are made to be broken.

Re: 2008 Michigan Fish-In
Like Jack Hise said, I'm in. At least I'm in if I can get off from work. I'll put in for vacation this week, if I can get away with it. I look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones, Maybe Mike Flannigan will deliver his famous, peanutbutter fudge in person! JC won't be there because he knows that I'll eat up all of the perch! OK, I'll save him some. I don't want to risk upsetting Superman. (Besides, if I were to eat all of the perch, he might tell Betty about MY tattoo! <gulp>) Woo-hoo! I'm already thinking about what flies to tie. I need a new rod, of course. (This IS a good excuse, isn't it?)

Re: 2008 Michigan Fish-In
Count me out for now. It all depends on how things finally turn out with Amy and if I can get leave.
Just curious, but why over the July 4th Holiday? Wouldn't you prefer to travel at time when there is a little less traffic both in the air and on the roads?
-
Re: 2008 Michigan Fish-In
Eric;
As far as traffic, etc. last year was low on both with the 4th falling in the middle of the week. If you can pop in for a day or 2 we'll sure make room for ya.
-
Re: 2008 Michigan Fish-In
Best three week stretch of the year in my book, Grayrock and a stay at Wa Wa Sum two weeks before the Fish-In, all while the Hexs and then the Tricos are a poppin. Gotta love it! 8)
I am building Jon his first fly rod for his birthday, so I know he will be stoked. Need to buy him some youth waders for Christmas, so whenever you fellas want to do the Cabelas thing, let me know. Oh and don't forget the Midwest Fly Tying Expo the first weekend of December. You guys to the south should just bag it and move north. Think of all the gas it will save you! :)

I'll be there. Count on me to help in any way. Hi Jim Flamming!

Re: 2008 Michigan Fish-In
Hey Bob! Great to hear from you again! Next time you are in MI, gimme a shout. We'll fish the Muskegon.
-
Re: 2008 Michigan Fish-In
OK seem's like there is definitely intrest, will check with Rusty to double check on the dates. A Cabelas Organazitional meeting sounds like a winner. Also who all is planning to get to the Mason Fly Show first saturday of December. we could hold a Org. Meeting there also.

Re: 2008 Michigan Fish-In
I was invited to tie at it, but declined. Not sure if I will attend since it's a 5 hour drive each way.

Re: 2008 Michigan Fish-In
The 2 wt. "Shoot Out" was a lot of fun last year. I sure hope we have another along with an "Open" Shoot Out where everyone can strut their stuff!! The targets that Bill and Brad set up were very much like real conditions we all face.

Re: 2008 Michigan Fish-In
I'm planning on the Mason show, and am always up for a Cabelas run. I need to go there with my oldest to fit him with waders, a vest, etc. Gotta bring the camera. 8)

Re: 2008 Michigan Fish-In-Date conformation
I've played phone tag with Rusty today. He said the dates of June 30-July5/6 will work well for him. He said that most rooms will be available. Of course those that are open are on a first come, first serve basis as usual. He said since he's in the process of closing for the winter, and outside doing lots of stuff, it's best to email for reservations if you want to get them in right away.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again, and maybe to actually catching a fish in 2008. I'm a fisher, but still a virgin catcher!
I'd like to set up a meet and greet at Cabela's, maybe sometime in November? I know a lot of you are going to the fly tying event, but I won't be there and I want to be at all of our meetings for the fish-in! So let us know when would be good for you. I'm thinking sometime in the eariler part of November, before the hoilday surge gets started and everyone gets so busy. Then we can meet again sometime after the first of the year.

The map of Grayling shows a giant gray patch where the military base is. I think thats pretty funny, since you can get a nice closeup of the White House.

Re: 2008 Michigan Fish-In
Tim;
I hope you can make the Mason event. It is one awsome fly show!!
The rest of you guy's had better listen to Mrs. DeSavage! She's one of the main reasons the Fish-In have been so well organized. She takes notes and acts on them while most of us couldn't manage a 2 car furneral!! Keep 'em straight Jean they need your leadership. We'll get you on some fish this year for sure!!
Save a chair for me at the Mason show. I'll do my best to be out fishing that day but I'll be there too, if only in spirit. It's sort of where it all started!
-
Re: 2008 Michigan Fish-In
And while you're looking up info on the Mason show, keep in mind there will be a show in Cleveland on 1-5-07. Yours Truly will be there tying all day, and it would be a great place for another meeting.http://expo2008.ncff.net
There's not a lot of information on the site yet because I'm waiting for the team to get it to me (I'm the webmaster), but the map and other details are there. There will be lots of seminars and a few celebs as well, so come back often to check it out.

Jack, you have no mercy. You're just taunting these poor folks with the idea that you'll be drifting dries in December. You're mean, just plain mean. ;)
I'll probably be standing next to you, drifting another dry, or dry and dropper, or a bugger, or whatever is working...
