I'm goin' in!...........after the carp.
O M G! There are some huge carp(3-4fters) feeding in a shallow cove at a local lake. I hooked one on 1x and it promptly snapped me off. Going for the reinforcements.............
Hopefully photos to come.
If you don't hear from me, you know they dragged me in.

What exactly do you use when fly fishing for carp? I've heard of mulberry flies and stuff but have no idea what they look like or what else one would use. Happy hunting!
Re: I'm goin' in!...........after the carp.
RIght now it's gonna be a hooked wrapped in grass and muck, as that is what they are foraging on.

A Muck fly?
Do you buy those at MuckDonalds????
Good luck and post some pictures

Got one ! ! !
That is a 9ft 6wt rod for reference. And no, I caught it on a large spinning rod with 20lb line. Estimate it weighs ?? 60lbs??
I caught it on what we call 'dough ball'( equal amounts of flour and corn flour mixed with just enough water to make it hold together and then boiled inside a tightly-bound cloth for about 1/2hour).

Nice Fish, Im going to have to find some of those to target, my only carp was on a pocket fisherman when I was about 12 the Drag wouldnt hold and I had to hand over hand the line.

I'm sure that she does, but they all involve eggplant.
BBWe, the state record for TN is only about 41 pound, IIRC. A couple pf years ago, one of the guys in Cumberland TU caught one that went over 50. He never registered it. It turns out that it would have been a line-class world record on a fly rod. I expect him to repeat in another year or two.

Check out the recipes section for a planked carp recipe. It was posted a month or two ago.
Regards to all.
Re: I'm goin' in!...........after the carp.
nice fish...that is a grass carp, one of the hardest species to catch on a fly. it is illegal to even target them here in OR and WA, but I caught 15 lb (small for grassers) grass carp in FL last year. they are really spooky and hard to get close to. what fly did you catch him on?
Re: I'm goin' in!...........after the carp.
After having 1X snapped like a bannana fresh out of liquid nitrogen I went after them with a stout spinning rod and dough ball.
They do spook easily but they come right back to where they were pretty quickly. I just put my dough ball about 6" under the surface where they were feeding.
Re: I'm goin' in!...........after the carp.
I use an 8' 6wt glass (McFarland of course) rod with 6lb P-Line flouro, and for flies: Bead Head Prince Nymph, Haresear with rubber leggs, or Bead Head Pheasant tail, on intermediate line.

As John said they are grassers and very nice ones too. They are usually stocked to keep the vegitation down in a waterway. Congratulations on your capture(s).
