Roscoe Fish-In Swap
Okay, this is a different form of swap.
This swap is only open (sorry others) to those of you who will be at the event. Minimum 5, Maximum 10. Sign-up by April 1st or Maximum participants, whichever comes first.
This is unlike a typical swap. Everyone will tie 10 flies, 5 each of 2 patterns. All 5 of the same pattern will be in a separate container (35mm film containers are perfect). We will put the containers in a bag and each person will draw 2, thereby getting a total of 10 flies.
General guidelines:
a) Patterns must be appropriate for use during the Fish-In. In other words, the patterns you choose should represent insects expected to be present during that week. You can check the 'hatch chart' on the information page.
b) Scotch tape a piece of paper with your name, the pattern name and hook size on the outside of the container, i.e. Allan Podell, March Brown(dry), 12.
c) Participants must bring the flies to the morning breakfast at the Roscoe Diner on Wednesday, June 1st. We will place the submitted flies in a bag and draw at 9:00am.
***However, if you will be at the Fish-In but plan on arriving after the drawing time, you may mail your flies to me. I will submit your flies and draw for you. You will be able to pick up your new flies when you arrive. If you fall in this catagory I must have your flies by May 25th!
The season is getting closer and so is the Fish-In.
Oh, I'll be tying sulphur emergers and comparaduns.
Anyone interested?

Allan, RW here,
I'm in! Don't know what I'll be tying yet, but almost certain they'll be wets. By the way, I don't fish bead heads (jigs); just like Ray don't fish streamers. If anybody is plannin on tyin jigs (beadheads) and I get one of them containers of jigs I'm gonna be highly pi$$ed, so if that happens can I put them jigs back and take another pick? Sheesh! Never thought I'd need an arbitrator for tyin flies.

Darn it RW. And I was going to tie this 6 tungsten bead nymph that's would have been sure to be the top fly for the week. "G"
-
lou,
How can a 6 tungsten bead fly be the "top fly of the week"? Given the weight of tungsten, it would be the bottomist fly of the week.

mikey two-shoes, RW here
Yes indeed, we country clubbers like to do it up right. If you plan to attend our fourth annual Roscoe fish-in, when you change into your waders, make sure you leave your shoes in front of your locker before going down to the stream. They will be shined upon your return. Don't forget to tip the shower room attendant.
Dinner will be served promptly at 8 p.m. Ties and jackets required. The first nights menu will include lobster tails or king crab legs with a light salad and your choice of potato, served with a fine Chardonay.....
or, for those with a heartier appetite, you might prefer the 20 ounce Prime Rib done to your liking, baked potato with sour cream and chives and side of fresh asparagus spears with hollandiase... along with perhaps a French Beaujolais or a fine California burgandy.
For those of you returning late from the Beaverkill's evening hatches, the chef will have prepared a late evening buffet of fresh meats, cheeses and other delicacies along with a selection of our best wines to suit your taste.
After dinner you can retire to the smoking lounge where a fine selection of cigars, cognacs and brandies await the discriminating angler. A warming fireplace, poker table and fly tying tables complete with vises are there for those so inclined.
There you have it, The Roscoe Fish-in. Your host, Allan Podell, has gone out of his way to make the week as pleasant as possible for those in attendance. As a fellow FAOL'r we would love to have you join us mikey.

Ok, count me in. I'll tie Han's CDC & elk Caddis and a snowshoe rabbit's foot Sulpher emerger. Both in size 16.

Does anybody nymph at the Fish In becuase I have a super nymph that I could tie, but just incase I already tied up two different emergers, five of each. I might still change them around though.

"GET THE DRIFT?"

OK Allan, I got my flies all done, I changed the bwo from 14 to 16, (cause I got my new eye glasses) The #10's (variant's) I feel ok with, the 16 bwo, I have reservations, I'm gonna send them anyway, I used a up turned eye on the hook and I like the action with those on 16 bwo's. If anyone get's these in the swap and really don't want them, please let me know. I'll gladly trade for a fly I got in the swap...

Just a quick reminder about this swap. The actual swap, where you pick out your flies, will be Wednesday morning at the Roscoe Diner, right after breakfast about 9:00am. If youwon't be arriving until after that but want to participate, just mail your flies to me and I'll put them in the swap bag and pick out your flies for you.
Getting close ... just 31 more days and counting.
Allan
