I seem to have lost every one of those little nylon washers that fit on the "rite" bobbins. Can they be replaced with hardware store washers?
I just measured one. You need a nylon washer that is .023" (.6mm) thick with a diameter of .523" (13.25 mm)
and a .311" (8mm) center hole. If you can come reasonably close to that it should work. If you can't then I would recommend contacting the manufacturer for replacements..
Thanks, will check out my hardware store. Can't think of a reason that "reasonably close" wouldn't work.
I checked out my local HW store and could not find what I needed. I sent an email to rite and they sent me what I needed.
Contact the manufacturer Merco. They'll send you some, probably not even charge you for the S/H. Have interacted with them several times and they were always VERY helpful. First rate operation. If for some reason they can't help (very unlikely), PM me and I'll send you a few of my extras (they package them with extras these days). Luck.

Wow, the milk jug idea sounds great. Do you just cut the center hole with a leather punch? Where in the world do you suppose all those washers go to?

I have had mine 2 rites for well over 6 years. I still have all the washers... I do see the problem you might have. The washer tend to stick to the thread bobbin and get a ride. It could then fall when moving the thread bobbin... so, a place to start looking for the washer would be the place where you store the thread.
