This is the North Umpqua when Montana Moose graciously guided my cousin and me a couple of weeks ago. This is as close as you get to heaven.

Here's a Montana Moose in short pants in the same river.

Thanks, again George. Just got my wading staff back from Dale yesterday. I left it in her vehicle. If my head wasn't attached...

Loretta Lynn's ranch. This is directly in front of her house and most times I am the only one there. Beatutiful little spot.

You're welcome Joe...anytime ! That first pic shows 'Eagle Rock' in the upper background. What a day that was. Should be picking up soon as it's cooling off. Way too cold up there now for wet wading. Was hoping to continue with that into October but not this year. Hi to Dale please....might mention I'm going to Touvelle this coming weekend.
Cheers,
MontanaMoose
jcasebee,
That is obviously in the Wichita Mtns....right? Was that at one of the lakes? I like to fish Caddo lake.
I fish over there all the time, and love it. Do you ever go out to Mountain prk?
We need to hook up some time. I didn't know there were aby other FFers around here.
Carl
Here are photos of some locations I've found quite enjoyable this summer. The mountain streams are in the Smokey Mountains (as well as the little "dink" rainbow). The other photos are from Brookville Tailwaters in Indiana. The young man is my son and the goofy looking old dude is me. Yes, I forgot my wading boots and had gym shoes on over my waders if anyone is noticing :D

Crappiecat,
You are right, that pic was taken at the WM Wildlife Refuge. If anybody else lives in the beautiful state of OK, send me a PM and we'll go fishing!
John
btw Jeff, those pics (of the scenery) are gorgeous! My wife is ready to come out to IN now.

Both places are beautiful. South East Indiana is very pretty. The Smokeys are in a league all their own.
Jeff
Don't ever let Cornbread know you posted that much information in a picture. Heavens knows throngs of people from around the world will flock there and desecrate the fishing, and you'll be banned from the site. That's a pretty hot steelhead location.   Tell ole CB the River Rat says HI, and that I'll be back shortly to liven things up.Quote:

Doug,
Hey, good idea! Only problem is I still don't know how that fish managed to get the fly in it's mouth. :D
To add even more perspective to this picture, that is my 12 year old son's finger (his hands are a lot smaller than mine).

Jeff,
That one picture of your son squatted down on a rock looking away from you is one very beautiful picture and I sure hope you get an enlargement of it made and have it framed! I really liked that picture! Nice job on all the pictures!
Fly-Line,
The crappie - north or south of the Hudson Bridge? My buddy in St. Mary's fishes for crappies b/w the bridge and Stillwater, although on our joint trips the crappies are merely fantasy. On the ice but not from our canoe. JGW
JGW,
You could say right down town Bayport is where I was when I caught that one. We caught over 30 crappies that day over 11". The one in the photo is 12".
The train bridge at the north side of the no-wake zone is good also.

There were hundreds of those blue and black butterflies (I think they are black swallowtails but not sure) fluttering around everywhere. As we were walking on a trail to get to the section of stream we were fishing, they were like falling leaves in the fall. We walked through a cloud of them. Daniel had 3 or 4 sitting on his hat, and a couple landed on his fly rod. It was kind of a special time and special thing.
Well, after a few hours of fishing we came to the pool in the picture. We worked it pretty good and each of us caught a few decent rainbows there. The entire time, a cluster of butterflies were on that big rock. Once we had pretty well exhausted the pool, Daniel asked if it was OK to cross the water and look at the butterflies.
I took the photo as he was sitting there completely absorbed in trying to figure out what they were eating and why they didn't fly away when he squatted down. He had absolutely no idea I was taking his picture. In fact, he was so intrigued by the butterflies and so caught in the moment, I don't think he even realized I was still there.
Yes, I have that photo hanging on the wall of my office cubicle and I'm looking at it (as well as another of him in action casting) as I type this message.
In my life, I've fished in a lot of beautiful places and caught more than my fair share of fish, but fishing with my son and seeing the lakes, streams, and fish through his eyes has brought even familiar old places to a fresh new perspective for me.
Taking my son fishing is just as rewarding for me as it is for him. The only problem is he's a "teenager" now and between soccer, playing with his buddies, homework, and the "teenage thing", finding when he has time to fish with me is getting more difficult. I suppose that's just a part of growing up, but the good news is he does still find time to fish with me and we get to talk on a very different level while we're fishing than when we're at home. Hard to explain, but it's more of a man-to-man discussion than adult-to-child one.
Jeff
Jeff,
It all came to a halt after Joe turned 17. Too many distractions. He is almost 25 and we finally got together and went fishing. I can control my feelings basically but with Joe I turn to pouting, feeling sorry for myself, missing him. When he was a little boy, Joe was a little doll and a fascination to me. Here is this cute kid calling me "Daddy" It was the single most important word I've ever heard.

I know just what you mean. I know as he gets older things will be different. I hope not, but that's life. When I was 17, my dad and I didn't see many things the same and were were not close at all. Now that I'm 47, my dad is one of my best friends. It wasn't until I was in my mid 20's that I realized what a decent and good man my father was. From what you said, it sounds like you and your son still have a chance and I hope that is the case.
I honestly treasure every moment I spend with my son and would not trade a single moment we've spend fishing. I'm still hopeful that we can stay close through the teenage years.

The water was very low when I got up there the week after Labor Day. I was told it was one of the driest summers on record. The first night up there it was 34 degrees....2 days later it was 94. Fishing was tough to say the least. I caught most of my fish in the pocket water shown and a few came out of some deeper pools...bead-head nymphs in the pocket waters and riffles and wooly buggers in the pools. All the pool fishing was at dusk and later. The two photos showing a green railing...that's the bridge leading to Whitface Mountain. Hope you like the pics. Do a search for Fran Better's name and take a read...interesting man....and he makes some beautiful rods and flies. In that deep pool in the last pic....we had a massive trico hatch the first night I was up there...looked like it was snowing up...fish were very fussy with that much food in the water. Dropped down to a #22 and only managed one small brown.

How about the Main Southwest Miramichi for Atlantic Salmon.
Well, I tried to insert a pic of a great spot but it did not work very well.
