Hey there! Just wanted to share this fly I tied!
It was pretty simple, but I think it looks like it might be effective.
Ingredients:
Mustad streamer hook size 10
some brown marabou
a brown rabbit zonker tied as a collar 2-3 wraps. And then just a thread head, though a beadhead might have worked better for giving this guy some action. I'll let you know how it fishes. :-)

No question...that fly WILL catch fish! :D
Caught my eye. Hmmmm, I see some other color combos in this. To help me, the zonker strip gets tied down and wrapped, like a hackle, around the head area.

I actually tied down the zonker strip about halfway back on the shank and it took 2-3 wraps to get to the head area. The skin is pretty thick, so you can't really let the turns overlap, you just have to wrap it closely enough that the skin edges meet each other, if that makes any sense. It helps to wet down the fur as you go so it doesn't get trapped under the wraps or the thread and you go. I stripped some hair off of the skin both at the tie-in point and when tying down at the head area.Quote:

Largemouth bass are the primary fish around here. Yeah, I had thought maybe it needed weight to get it lower in the water column, but now that I think about it I think I would fish it skittering along the edges of lilly pads and such things around the edge of the ponds around here. Hopefully the fur will help it not catch too many weeds... the only other type of fishing I am really familiar with is using a spinning reel for largemouth with flukes rigged weedless on a Gamakatsu hook.Quote:

So, that is what I base the majority of my presentation(s) off of. I have no idea how to "present" a fly on a trout stream. Which, I should learn soon, because the second week of May Christopher and I are going to Smoky Mountains National Park for a trout fishing vacation! :-D

To make that fly a little more weedless you could tie it as a bend back. Take a pair of pliers and bend the front fourth of the shank down about ten degrees. It shouldn't show at all with that big collar but it will make the fly ride hook up which combined with the collar will let you work close to the weed bed

...Speaking of zonker strips and color combos. The streamers I'm tying are all zonker. Tail and wing=one piece. Contrast color wrapped for the body. Easy. Color combos are almost unlimited especially with the newer two tone barred strips. Eyes and flash are optional. I'm tying these for bass, so they get some. While you have your rabbit out, try some.

They look great, and I think they will catch fish!
Chewydog, yours look great too, and look very fishy.
Karli-Rea, you might consider glueing on some eyes on yours also. I have read that the eyes can be strike triggers. However, I don't know if it actually makes a difference, and I put them only on part of my streamers. I don't usually put them on small streamers for crappies, or white bass, etc., but do put them on the larger streamers that I have been tying lately to try for walleyes with, I do add them.
