I am really curious on some of you people's furled leaders and material, so I purpose a SWAP.
No more than 12 people, and any length leader you want, but all the same
Self addressed stamped envelopes.
How about it...you furlers up to it?

Joni;
I'm in! :D
I'm in, but you already knew that from the other post
I'll play. How about a time frame for this?
Brad
I'll play as well.l Needed to get some built anyway
If a Canadian can play, he will furl................
Ill play if you'll have me
I'll play. Count me in. Just tell me how to participate in the swap.
I'll whip up a few for a swap. When do you want them by?
Okay, let's make the deadline for September 25th. Is that cool with everyone?
So far it is as follows:
1. FG (me)
2. Jack Hise
3. solowookie
4. Kaboom1
5. harleybob87
6. mgliss
7. Icemanxxxv
8. FISHN50
and, Fry Flier is there anything we have to do different for Canada?
You are #9.
Let's wait till Saturday for deadline sign-up, but at this point NINE leaders...I am sure there are more furlers out there, but first TWELVE only...k?
Then just put them in an envelope, and include a self addressed and STAMPED envelope so I can send them back to you.
You will end up with eleven different leaders, plus your own.
I do have an IDEA for that OWNERS LEADER though......CASTING FOR RECOVERY thing maybe. Donate everyones #12 leader....what do you all think?
Joni;
I'm headed to Idaho on the 14th staying to the 28th. But, I have 12 7' leaders made of Gutterman Tera 180 thread in my inventory and can get them on the way before I leave.
( I made a 5' one for WarrenP and he landed 109 Brown's and 2 Rainbows one evening on the Elk River. Turns over nicely and takes a beatin' but keeps on tickin")
I like the idea of giving the owners/entrants leaders to Casting for Recovery.
why don't we just include an extra leader or 2 for casting for recovery?
casting for recovery can have mine that I make and yes the 25th of september is great for me. Thanks for putting this on Joni. I have only seen the leaders I furl so this will help me to improve.
That's what I was thinking too Harley. It will be nice trying other leaders.
Nothing different for Canada, it may take an extra day or two in the mail but that is it.
That would be fine with me, they have been known to receive the odd Fry Flier Leader as it is.Quote:

I would be honored to donate my 12th leader!
Right On!
Not to sound GREEDY, ......well maybe a little bit, if you want to include a FLY of your choice, I will send that with the leaders for the disabled..
Just a thought.
Now, this would be the most AWESOMEST swap if KATHY SCOTT would join in!!!!;)
Joni;
Kat had a big hand in getting many of us started so she is sort of here already. And, I'll bet she's following this thread!
Yes, I'll be glad to add a couple of flys. I happen to have some Orvis "Large Eye" hooks and can do a biot BWO for the swap. How about a couple of 18's?
Fly(s) and leader what a concept...lol...cmbination almost sounds fishable. I am in
Thanks all. Lets wait till Saturday and see if we can get three more to jump in. If not, it looks like 9.
I am thinking "Reeling For Recovery" Got the info and everything....cool?
So that would mean 12 furled leaders and 12 flies...right?
Hi,
Just back from the summer on the road, and found this great thread! Had to laugh when I saw Jack's post that I must be monitoring this since FAOL was the first board I visited (thanks for the kind words, Jack - fun seeing you this summer).
Wish I could do it, but school and TU and the cane people have me booked every weekend until mid-November :-( All good stuff, but I have a huge leader backlog and would feel too guilty having this much fun!
Kat
Thanks anyway Kat. It was worth a shot....or shout:D
Gem, if you join, it will be 10. 10 leaders and "1" fly. The fly goes with YOUR leader to the Reeling people
So, are you in? that would make 10 for this unless someone jumps in tomorrow which is the deal-line.
1. FG (me)
2. Jack Hise
3. solowookie
4. Kaboom1
5. harleybob87
6. mgliss
7. Icemanxxxv
8. FISHN50
9. Fry Flier
Yes, FG...count me in. I'm so disorganized I was just stroking my chin and wondering if I should commit. I will commit to it and bust my butt to get them done on time.
Thanks for counting me in. Would it be ok to submit furled leaders with no shorbs loops? A tippet ring on the fly end, and an L2L connector on the rod end?
Furthermore flurocarbon....or thread....or thread leaders soaked in floatant?
Perhaps you can tell me which one to throw in.
Thanks Joni
New thought Joni.
12 plus only "one" fly per set of leaders. That I think I can handle. If I did three sets it would only be 3 flies.
Sooooooo.......Count me in as number 10, number 11, and number 12. Each set I do will be a different leader with a different fly. I would prefer someone else do #11 and #12. However I will fill it out to 12.
That way we get the dozen and the plan is set. We all know what to shoot for now. It's 12. No waiting till tomorrow to know the game plan.
Now.....if ANYONE wants to be # 11 or # 12 just replace me and add them in, and let me know so I won't have to do so many.
Joni, still have room for one more? I'd love to participate if possible.
Kelly.
No probs for me. If Joni agrees I will be just #11 and number last.
I'll go ahead and join in if that's OK. I just need to cross-check with Jack Hise to make sure he and I don't make the same thing (since he did teach me this past June, after all).
PS - Gemrod, do you realize that each spot in the swap has to make a dozen leaders? If you were 10, 11, and 12, that's 36 leaders!!!
Awesome GUYS and thanks. Gem looks like you get #10, but if you want to donate more, just make a note so I know.
It is a go and we are CLOSED on this. Here is the line-up:
1. FG (me)
2. Jack Hise
3. solowookie
4. Kaboom1
5. harleybob87
6. mgliss
7. Icemanxxxv
8. FISHN50
9. Fry Flier
10. GEM
11. kglissmeyer
12. CO_Flyfisher
So, the 25th of September!
Gem, I don't use the L2L...is there a way to still use the leader?
Coooooooool!
Cool. We have 12 different leaders and someone will get a leader and a fly. Great swap FG. And I have never been in one before. It's all good!
I just won't make any with L2L connecters. I have a friend who asked me if I could make a furled leader without the loop on the fly line end.....the L2L is what I came up with. I have not even fished with one. I just did it to see if I could.....and I don't like loop to loop connnections. I am not particularly fond of the Shorb's loop....but will make them that way for the swap. Probably what most prefer. When you use the Shorb's loop...and feed the leader through itself....you are cutting in half it's break strength. I would bet you that on the tippet end....if you were to do a break test.....it would break right where it feeds into itself....at which point you are going through 6 strings....and halving it. So now the weakest point...in my mind....would be where you have gone through it and now only have three strings of pure thread instead of six. I bet you it would break there at that point every time. So I use a loop to loop to mount the tippet ring...not as pretty but works. Thinking about just an overhand knot at the fly line end. Your are going to have knots anyway....and that end is so far from the fly.....and so quick and easy. Maybe a dab of Liquid Stitch from Wal Mart over the knot.
Sorry.....never ten words or less unless talking to my wife....and I no longer have that privilege.
Anywhoooo....I'm in....
Could one still use it with an L2L? Yup. Just nail knot it to fly line and cut the loop off. Or, vice versa...with a dab of zap a gap where you cut the loop off......then knail knot it.
Yup, CO....I knew I was offering up 36 leaders. No big deal to me.
Should we all post up what we'll be twisting so there aren't too many overlaps?
I was planning to do 7' Berkley Vanish Transition Gold fluorocarbon with 2mm black nickel tippet ring and indicator butt section. This leader weighs 17.1 grains, so it is GREAT for nymphing since it sinks like a rock!
I'll be starting on mine this weekend. -Jared.
SWEET! Mine is a 5' UNI MONO with 2 mm ring and small red indicator.
Great for 4 to 6 weights!
Mine are signed, packaged & sealed, will go out in tomorrows mail.
Mine will be a 6' crayon green thread from Wal-Mart with tippet ring. (I FORGOT TO ADD MINE WILL BE TREATED AND WILL BE A "FLOATING" leader). It looks bigger and fuzzier than fly tying thread....but I was giving all my first learner leaders to my 80 yr old lifetime fly fishing friend. I mean HE has fly fished all his life...not me. At first he did not like the furled leaders. Then he said he was trying to teach someone how to cast and could not get them to turn over the fly until he put on one of my furled leaders. Then the guy could do it.
Anyway...point is....it may not look as sweet as the others...buy my fly fishing friend aficionado preferred it. I think he is a dry fly fisherman preferrably but just doesn't talk about it. Doesn't want to be labeled a purist or elitist. But he grew up on Henry's Fork.
He likes the green thread because it has stretch to it and therefore does not rip the hook out of the mouth or tend to break off tippets. The ones out of fly tying thread look a whole lot thinner and really sweet. But I am going to do the green one which is with thicker thread.
So with sorta apologies....something different. May not look all that great but a friend swears by it...so might as well toss it out there.
Guess that's what it's all about. Variety.
I waited too long on this one. Sounds like a fun swap for you all. Keep rockin' FG.
I'll be making up some 5' s out of Cortland Camo 2#... I gave a bunch out to friends to try & this is the one that got the most "alllllrights"
I'm a relative new comer to the furled leader furling thing LOL! I'll be spinning 5 foot Stren High Vis Mono in 4 lb test steep taper. Kind of warm water or big fly stuff. Hope thats ok?
