my pet peeve is people who forget what it was like to be young and so paint the younger generation with a broad brush as 'lazy,' 'not as educated,' etc. etc.

They paint us with a picture like that Dave until it comes time to choose their nursing homes for them. "
I just had an epiphany....
I suspect I'm about the 3rd eldest that frequents this site....
Do you think you are stereotyping us just as you are decrying those that are doing it to you?????

Having to pre-pay for gas when I'm going to fill up, necesitating TWO trips inside (most stations around here do not have card readers on the pumps), where I have to stand behind several people all buying lottery tickets, scratching them off, and buying another....and if they win, you guessed it, THEY USE THAT TO BUY MORE LOTTERY TICKETS!!!!!! AAAAUUUGGGHHHH!!!!!!
If they are going to require me to come in, then they should have a special line for lottery tickets only!
Semper Fi!

Anyone that stereotypes. Also, people that refuse to wear safety gear, like crash helmets (you hear that big Ben?).

So far I have read every post and every pet peeve I have.I agree with most every response and can relate to most.
The one thing I must stand and shout about is the inability of adults to drive and then watching their kids drive the same way.
We live 75 ft from a 4 way stop. A teen blew the stop sign and t-boned a lady with kid in a car seat (THANK GOD). The girl even forgot to put the vehicle in park and backed over herself when she got out.
She NOW stops but her mother blows right on through. Go Figure!!!!!

I'm still giggling over the "C'rapp" by Allan,,, love it! Not actually a pet peeve, but when we see an Emergency vehicle, lights flashing, siren blazing, stop, turn around and tear off in the opposite direction it does give one room for pause. Twice in the last couple of months.

JC,
As a career firefighter, I can explain this quite easily. If we are on a call with several other apparatus, one of the others may get there first. If they are able to determine that there is no real emergency, then we are cut loose from that call, and may be immediately put on another call - sometimes heading the other way.
The really strange looks we get are when we go through an intersection w/lights and sirens, and turn all that off (because we have been released from the call), and pull into the grocery store.

When things are not put back where they belong.Or the guy next door borrowed and didn't return the items.Or return them empty,
broken, dull or rusted. And can I borrow them again,I'll bring them right back.

Speaking of emergency vehicles, how often have you seen a police car 10 to 15 mph over the limit pull into the variety store or some such place? I see it alot. I have been ticketed for doing exactly that.
Now I just get on my cell and call the station to make them aware that some of their guys and gals are speeding and should be issued a ticket when they return to base. You can bet it's never happened but it's fun to listen to the person answering the phone trying to explain all the non-reasons for them doing that. Someday, maybe I will follow up on one.
