Dave Whitlock has contributed a lot to the world of fly fishing. If Dave Whitlock's motivation is he's ready to retire, then I say good for him. I believe he's 70. Dave as a former chemist and with Emily, a biologist, would certainly be an asset in these matters but there are many others that can help, including everyone reading this thread.

The Whitlocks school/home was still for sale Saturday.
While it would be nice if someone like Dave and Emily "lead" the troops to fight for the White watershed, Maybe they have done enough...and deserve a nice quiet relaxing retirement. Even Presidents get to stop working....

I'm a bit confused here. I have not fished the White in 3 years but back then the fishing was as good as it could possibly have been. I have however fished the Norfork a couple times in the past year and both trips were OUTSTANDING. Tons of fish and nearly all of them were plump and between 16 - 20 inches. My last trip was this past winter but I just talked to a friend in Mountain Home who said that the fishing is GREAT right now.
So I have to ask, just where is all of this polluted water with starving fish? Was I fishing an unaffected area?
Don't misunderstand this as a dig to anyone who has raised these critical issues . . . I'm honestly asking the question as a visiting angler who saw nothing but outstanding fishing.

Go back and take a look at the Ozark Angler columns where Fox chronicled the degradation over the past 20+ years. It gives you a good perspective. The White is still fishing well NOW. But it isn't what it was THEN. And what we're really concerned about is what it will BECOME if things don't change.
