This is from YCMALTF on my website.
"We would hunt the Deward area along the Manistee River. This is
that same stretch from Cameron Bridge Road up to Manistee Road along
the headwaters of the Manistee River that we used to fish. It is named
after the ghost town of Deward which sat right in the middle of it. The old
foundations are still there if you look for them. The town existed for
about 15 years and was established around the turn of the century solely
to log off the Ward Lumber timber holdings which had to be completed
within 10 years of Mr. Ward’s death as per his will. Hence de-Ward.
My Brittany, Audubon Autumn, was always in her glory here. God
she loved to hunt. One time after hunting, we were standing around in a
field by the car. All of a sudden the dogs started running frantically
around the small wood pile we were standing next to. After nosing
around a bit, they zeroed in on me. While I was wondering why I was the
object of so much attention, I noticed a tight feeling in the back of my
hunting pants just under the left cheek of my butt. I put my hand down
and felt the little bulge in them. Then the bulge moved slightly.
Somewhat freaked out, I dropped trow and a mouse ran out of my pants
right up my open shirt. Naturally the dogs were going nuts. I felt sort of
like a tree with a coon in it. I pulled off my vest and hunting shirt and
the mouse bolted for freedom. The mouse was toast the second he hit
dog level.
Al crooned, “Hickory, Dickory, Dock, A mouse ran up my ____.”

What a wonderful post! Not the situation I am sure, but you told it with a visual. Thank you!

I was quiet and so was he... Kinda spooked me, I named him Frank and chose a long distance relationship... :-)

Don't think that would have ended well, frankly speaking. Where was he? The daughter and I were hiking in SNP a few weeks ago and I told her to keep an eye out for anything of a herpetological nature; never did see anything except a few frogs.
Regards,
Scott

I have had snakes try to board my pontoon, met beavers, otters, muskrats, eagles, osprey, and bats. But the most interesting and recent was on a lake in central Oregon where I was told that if I cought a chub to "throw it up in the air and a osprey would take it. Well I didn't catch a chub. But every time I cought a trout I would see a osprey checking me out. As I was removing the hook from a trout it flipped out of my net and was floating on its side. Here came mr. osprey who missed on the first pass and as he was turning around the trout recovered and headed for deep water.

I've had multiple encounters with moose while fishing in the Wind River mountains. Fishing on the North Platte this spring came across a beaver who slapped his tail telling us we must have took his hole.
A couple of years ago, had my scariest incident. a bison decided to camp out on an island. Problem was that island was the best place to cross the Soda Butte to get back to the parking lot. Eventually he moved on, and I was able to get back across. Not 5 minutes later, the entire herd came down from the hill side to drink out of the river right where I had been fishing. Bison is the 2nd most frightening animal for me, after grizzily.
