A different stage of Caddis
Well, since they are still Caddis I thought I would just throw up a couple more of the flies I have been tying in preparation for this spring. I am pretty sure I have the EHC down for the most part at this point.
Our two predominant hatches of caddis here on the Pecos are the Brachycentrus and the Rhyacophila. Brachy is cased in the larva stage(American Grannom) and the Rhya is a free living larva (the "Green Rock Worm"). I am sure most of you know all of this but writing it is helping me remember.
I have one good book which shows a few examples of what you can use to imitate all levels of Caddis. For the Brachycentrus the one I chose to go with is a hybrid between a Herl Nymph and a Dark Cased Caddis fly.

I might try another variant using a few strands of light colored feather wrapped around the shank and then coat it with some head cement(shiny outer case?). Then have a small amount of green dubbing for the thorax and a wrap or two of Ostrich Herl for legs.
The next fly I tied up was a super simple Rock Worm. I just used some "Caddis Green" dubbing with flash already mixed in and ran it up to the eye and added a bit of Peacock Herl for the head/legs.

As I look at the picture now I think I will add a little stubby tail to this guy.
I am slowly but surely building a nice box full of flies for the Pecos. Next step is getting a couple patterns down from the stonefly group.
Can't wait...
