thanks guys.
For me is also about memories. In addition to ALL the reason posted here, it takes me back to my childhood and my Father.
As i have posted before, growing up in north Texas, one would not expect to grow up fly fishing. But, my Dad started "fly fishing" for catfish with yellow grashoppers on a fly rod. It was a tradition every summer, and he taught me to cast when I was just 7 or so. We would be at the stock ponds on the ranch where he worked at dawn, rig up, and catch fish. Of course, the night before we had to go out and catch the grass hoppers, then before we went to the ranch we would stop at the old truck stop for a "short stack" so we had the energy to fish all morning.....Tradition.....Memories!
Those were great times!
My dad passed away in 1977 when I was only 19 yrs old, and I had not fly fished since(did not even fish at all, but just a few times). Then last year I saw a cheap combo on sale at a sporting goods store and thought...."why not".
Casting that cheap rod out in the back yard brought back soooooo many memories that it was like I had just found a long lost friend from my youth!
Then I found FAOL and it was all downhill from there! :D
Now when I am out on a lake or creek. It is ALMOST like I'm fishing with my Dad again. I can almost feel him there, and I know he would approve. :)
Thanks to all for your posts,
Carl
