2004? Do the editors of Badger Sportsman magazine have problems with purchasing stories that are already published on the internet?
Ah,,, we ran it in 2007, no? Was it on the net before 2004 someplace?
The 2004 reference was because of the cover Len posted. Perhaps he was just looking for any cover of the magazine. As for the net, and frequency of publishing of this story, I don't know how far back Len started publishing it. I know it's at least been around since 2006 in various forums.
It's not my gig, but I would think that a magazine (paper or internet) would have a problem publishing something that has already been published. Especially if money was involved.
Ya,,, it's got me confused too. The cover says 2004,,, Oh well. Then again,,, that IS a Dec. edition... :)
I can tell you are truly concern. Maybe you need to contact the publisher and tell him that it is on the internet.
Oh....that is where he found the article. He did a search and found it on there.
I explained to him that it was on numerous other internet sites. He really liked the story and wanted to use it.
Take your artificial concern and go to websites that allow it.
I've enjoyed Len's stories for a long time, not only the internet ones but the ones that are published too. I've also enjoyed his many appearances on Television too. Comes across as not pretentious in his writings, his TV work and in person. Different strokes for different folks though. Everyone doesn't have to see things the same way. Isn't it cool that we live in American, and if you don't see eye to eye with someone, that you can have a different point of view? If you like his stuff great, if you don't no one is forcing you to read, or watch it. It is a grand day outside in Wisconsin and life is good. Merry Christmas to all. :D
Kathy asked me a question. Ok. Things I look for as an editor and in my own writing. Ending a sentence with a preposition should never be heard of. The over/incorrect use of the word 'that.' I once pruned 37 of them from one page of a submission. What the hell does 'suddenly' really mean; the word should be eliminated. Further/farther; you figure it out. Repetition of any word several times in anything; juvenile and poor writing. The, use, of, the, coma. One writer said he had a rule for it. Whenever he took a breath,,, he put in a coma. I took them out. Writing for the 'web' keep paragraphs small. Big ones are intimidating. In a book you can do it, but on here they will 'click you off. Don't ever 'write down' to anyone; they are not stupid even if you might think they are. If you know the exact word, use the damn thing. ( !!! these things, exclamation marks) are only used when quoting speech. EXCLAIM,,, get it? !!! leave them out! Please. If you have a good reason to send in something with misspelled words in it, I want to know what that good reason is. You owe the reader a few things. He is giving you his time; throw him a rope, not an anchor. Take the time and make the effort to offer him as much quality as you can. You at least owe him that much.
Some folks seem to have a gift, a natural flow for writing. A pro boxer did. President Reagan read every one of his books. So did I. Jeeze, he was good. ps, he researched the crap out of his subject, it just didn't show. There is a very popular fly fishing writer these days. Writes 'real good',,, he has more degrees in writing than a thermometer (it just doesn't show). He is so good it looks like it is just off the cuff stuff. Not a chance. You don't pop-out flawless writing by accident.
Kathy, hope this answers a bit for you.
It does, JC, although please don't hesitate to add more.
Everyone.
While we all have our own styles, or they're developing, this honest sharing of sound advice is, at least for me, a great way to step back and take a look (or maybe lean in a take a better look)... How's that for a convoluted sentence - grin?
Work in progress, always,
Kat
Most of what I write is technical. I write design manuals for a major automotive manufacturer as an avocation. My non-technical stuff is on the web page below. I write what I feel. Mostly just because I like to write. It is seldom good enough to publish so I cache it on my website. Maybe some one else will enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it. And if not, no matter.

Godspeed and good fishing.
