Are Super Lines Worth It?
Hello Silver,
I can remember a time before Scientific Anglers introduced the original Ultra lines. To me, those were Super Lines. They cost more than what I had been using and they were worth every penney they were asking for one. In the late nineties I started buying Rio's Versi-tip lines that topped the one hundred dollar mark, they were and still are worth every nickel.
Yet for any of the applications where I need to use a full floating line ( either a DT or WF ) be it for salt of fresh water, there are a myriad of great lines that fill my needs, well below one hundred dollars.
So no, I won't be running out to buy one anytime soon.
Then again, since the beginning of November I've been putting in five to six days of fishing a week - all with shooting heads and Amnesia. Old habits die hard and sometimes, inexpensively.
Best, Dave
Addendum:
This isn't Scientific Anglers first whirl into the world of ridged or rough surfaced fly lines. Around the late eighties or early nineties they had a line of clear ( relatively ) slow sinking / intermediate saltwater lines that had a new ridged surface on them. I still have one on my McNeese A/R Permit reel. That line sounded as if I was casting a flexible hacksaw blade.
