I have the same vice as the one shown on ebay(but mine was only $25). I've had it for just over a year. It holds the hooks pretty good, but the rotary feature is a pain to use and it NEEDS to be broken down and loc-tited before using it. I locked the rotating part and tie with it as if it were a standard(non-rotary) vice. By the way, I tie on that vice sizes ranging from 18 - 3/0 without many problems. I haven't tried anything smaller than 18(yet) but it won't hold bigger than 3/0 very well. For the bigger stuff I still have to use a regular bench vice to hold it.

Thanks for all your comments. I passed them on to my friend. He is really impressed with your helpfulness and knowledge.
jklett, welcome aboard. I was double-checking that item out of curiousity. Thanks for the test-drive opinion.
Hikepat, my friend looked up the vise late last night and couldn't find one for less than $125. Who has the $99?

I also have the vise referred on hookhack, I also have been very happy with it for an inexpensive rotary vise. I had a similar experience with the Regal look-a-like, sometimes broke smaller hooks and the jaws have chipped in a couple of years of moderate usage. I wouldn't recommend it.

My new Peak vise is sweet! I chose it because they are a local company, in the nearest town to my location, and the price was great -- I didn't know what I was missing with my worn-out Thompson. I thought it was normal to have to re-set the hook in the vise a couple times for each fly. Peak is coming out with new stuff soon, too -- more holes in the base for attachments, new attachments, carrying case, etc. DANBOB
