Although I have never lived north of Memphis, it is amusing to me how they close down things around here at the first threat of snow. They are giving a slight chance at 1" in and around Atlanta, better chance further north. I got my drivers license shortly before my 16th birthday and was working on the weekends at a small grocer delivering grocery to our customers, among other things. We got a pretty good snow for north MS, I delivered grocery all over town and out in the country with no dents in the sheet metal, never got sideways. Straight shift ran in 2nd gear most of the time.
Having had the opportunity to visit most of the major US cities, one thing I have learned, the only person in any city who knows how to drive in the snow is the person you are talking with at the moment.

It's like George Carlin said ''With all the idiots and maniacs on the roads , it's a wonder we ever get anywhere !''

I know what you folks are feeling - it isn't supposed to get out of the 40's here in the southern desert for a couple of days.

Since the ground was already below freezing, they predicted that both inches of anticipated snwfall would stick. Schools all over Middle Tennessee were closed last night, before the first flake. We got MAYBE 2 millimeters, maybe, if they were really short millimeters...
As a result, there are 100,000 kids out if school in Nashville today and there is no milk or bread on the grocery store shelves. I love winter in the South. This morning was 20 F warmer than yesterday morning. Those who were able should have been fishing. Monday is supposed to hit the 40's, another good day for fishing. Anytime the temperature goes up from freezing like that is likely to put the bite on.

P.S. Thanks for the words of warning and comfort from those more used to frigid weather. They warmed the heart, if not the air.
