Re: Terrestrials
I don't understand why anyone would get upset. It's not that big of a deal. And other than having your parents permission, I don't see it as an age thing. I get my wife's OK before I do any swaps. What's the difference?
I have just recenty completed my first swap as host, and I will say that it does take a certain amount of organization, but it's nothing that a normally intelligent person, 13 years old, or whatever, shouldn't be able to handle. You can keep stuff together, right? You know how to write addresses and use the mail service, right? That's all there is to it.
I don't like discouraging anyone. What's the worst that would've happened? We all tie a dozen flies, and don't get any back. I've lost a dozen flies in 1 day of fishing, and so far it hasn't bankrupted me. If that happened, then next time you hosted one, noone would participate....end of problem!
I am very sorry it worked out this way. Next time you want to try to host one, let me know. I'll get in on it, whether anyone else does or not. Just make sure it's OK with your parents or Guardian.
Semper Fi!

Re: Terrestrials
I do not think anyone was trying to stop this young man from doing a swap. I think we were all just trying to help in our own way. I always try to incourage new swap host by helping and giving as much info as is requested. My main concern for young folks is that their parants know what they are doing. I would also join in a swap conducted by this young man. My post was to try and help him with how to conduct a swap. I think that is what others were trying to do also. Just my 2 cents. John

Re: Terrestrials
As an innocent bystander I would like to chime in....I haven't participated in swaps...has to do with how I tie...that is I only tie a few at a time and always seem to want to modify a pattern....anyway I've paid attention to previous threads about conducting swaps and it seems some do get quite involved and have their hassles.
If it were me I'd want to participate first and be a swapmiester later...so I think they were just trying to be helpful, flytying13yearold.
Having said that though....flytying13yearold, I say if you want to do it ....go for it....the world needs doers and where better to come from than you young folks....experience does have some value but what the heck ...you'll be getting some.
