Elkhunter, I thought there would be something down your way in Coos Bay/North Bend. I am learning something. We folks in the Willamette Valley have it mighty good.

Jeremy: I will be going through Bend sometime in the next couple of weeks. I would like to visit that Sportsman's Warehouse, but I'll be darned if I can find driving directions to it on the net. Could you help? I'll be coming in on US 97 from K Falls.
Thanks. Tim Anderson
Headed south I have one shop 20 minutes away, another 30 minutes away and one 45 minutes away. Going north I have two about an hour away.
That being said I shop at Cabela's. If I took all the stuff in those 5 shops combined it still doesn't equal the selection at the Dick & Jim's. And besides, I don't get any service to speak of from the local guys so even if Cabela's isn't the most helpful, knowledgeable or cosy, they have what I'm looking for, the small shops don't.
Oh yea, Cabela's is only 30 minutes away.
I have a couple shops within probably ten miles:
San Jose Fly Shop (my local favorite0
Upstream in Los Gatos
I stopped including Mel Cotton's (local sporting goods store) because their fly fishing section has been shrinking lately. They still have rods, reels, waders, lines, and maybe half the flies they used to but every time I go in they have less and less (and they dumped their tying section).
Sportmart has a few flies and some equipment buried in their fishing dept but I usually don't count them. I go to San Jose Fly Shop or order online.
Once in a while, I'll drive the 20 miles to Orvis in Palo Alto.
There are a bunch of other shops around here if I widen the radius to about 45 miles. That takes in everything between here and San Francisco...Leland, Orvis, local shops, various others...
salisbury fly shop is @ 15 miles away, great place to do business

2 1/2 hours to Bentley's Outfitters. My closest, although 1 1/2 hours to a Sportsman's Warehouse in St. Cloud. All one way. So I buy much of my material over the net. The internet, that is. Price of gas. Convenience. Time. JGW
The Bears Den, Taunton MA. A great selection of tying materials and great staff. http://www.bearsden.com[/url:5e2f9] Two hour trip for me but worth the drive. Alec

Hey Panman, go to this web site-- www.sportsmanswarehouse.com/stores/or/bend.htm[/url:9aecd] -- this should bring up the web site for the Bend store and you can click on the directions and map from their website. Hope this helps you.
