I think the thread snap is more of a showman ship move rather than a time saver. As far a stopping to pick up a set of scissors, I never lay mine down. They are in my hand from the time I set down at the tying desk until I quit. Without realizing it, I guess I use Fishbum's method more that anything. Just pull the tag end short and continue to lay down a base wrap.

Davie snaps it sometimes but not always. I never put my scissors down. They stay in hand the whole time that I am tying, so they are always there. I used to teach production tyers down in Mexico back in the 90's and getting them to keep their scissors in their hand was the single hardest thing to get them to adopt into their tying routine.
