Re: Furled leaders versus knot less leaders
Tyronefly;
Kat is surely one of the best! She and Dave used to be summer neighbors before I moved to TN. Some time ago some said that all Kat did was take the information off the internet and make a DVD! Well if you watch closely she says just that in the intro! She and Dave are gifted teachers and it has my great pleasure to spend time with them.

Just getting settled in for Fall so I've missed a lot of the posts. Nice welcome home.
Lots of the best information comes to the surface here, but if I can help, feel free to e-mail at
dpvbkjs@tdstelme.net (or PM me here at FAOL).

Thanks Kathy, your DVD has turned my want for info into my Offset The Flyfishing/Tying fund.
Presently I use your setup along with a few minor tweaks(depending on the leader) to supply 3 fly shops and 4 flyfishing columnist. I am averaging for the past 2 years just over a 1000 leaders per.
Re: Furled leaders versus knot less leaders
Wow, Fry Flier, that's fantastic!
Hi Jack! Hope all is well :-)
Actually, Jack is very close but that's not quite what happened... I tried to follow the instructions from the Internet that were available back then, but no luck... I must be a visual learner. Instead, Tom Smithwick had demonstrated a process he developed after reading a few things at a cane rod makers' gathering. Two of those rodmakers, George Barnes and George Rainville, then taught me. Then Mike Holt in Maine taught me what I later found was also called the Shorb knot. With permission from all of those guys, I volunteered to be the one who demonstrated the trying to rodmakers the next few gatherings (at one, I ran into Jim Cramer, East meets West,... quite a few years ago now). Anyway, people called on the phone for instruction, and I was stumped until we decided to make the dvd. I'm the advisor for a tv studio at school, so one fall weekend, I set things up and explained my thoughts to David (my patient and rodmaking husband), who filmed me three times, close up, medium , and long shot. I wanted something that we could share easily and affordable, the community of anglers being a family, so I edited it here at home on the Mac and made copied one by one. Then JC reviewed it :-)

:D
TyroneFly, One thing no one told you in answer to one of your questions, the Furled leader is so suptle you can cast it all by its lonesome.
Thanks to Jack Hise and Brad Sherrick(Kaboom1) its the only leader Jean and I use anymore. However like all things associated with FlyFishing it's Addictive As He**
So Beware You've Been Warned!

Re: Furled leaders versus knot less leaders
Received Kathy's dvd and a few furled leaders in the mail yesterday - thank you Kathy. I am looking forward to viewing the dvd this weekend and hopefully making a few leaders of my own.
A big thanks to all of the folks who posted to this thread and to Brad (Kaboom1) for the freebies (3 furled leaders, one of which was set up with a sinking tip 8) ). :D
