The thread furled leader Jack. It worked a treat, no overspray, just a lovely turnover and layout.
Cheers
Jack,
Thanks very much for this thread. Thanks to you and RonS81 I'll now much more easily be able to use the leader rings.
You asked for sources and history. A few years ago I ordered som Roman Moser rings from the company that used to be E. Hille, don't remember the correct name but they were in PA. I believe they're no longer in business. The rings were 1 mm in diameter. Too SMALL! I used them for attaching tippet to tapered mono leaders - but not for long.
Next came across the rings in some Brit catalogs. Sorry, don't remember the company names. The 2 mm rings, from Riverge, are fine. They were ten rings for ~2 bucks. Also ordered some 3 mm Fox stainless steel rings - 25 for ~5 bucks. They work fine but they seem bigger than needed. The 2 mm rings are much "neater". I've not done it but you could probably hang half a dozen droppers from the 3 mm ring - if it were legal and you didn't mind the Mother of all Tangles. I bleev my objection to the big rings is probably no more than psychological - seems too big - overkill - for the gentle art of fly fishing.
I agree with you 1K% re the Shorb loop at the tippet end. My knit picker and eyeballs aren't built for that. In spite of the naysayers, I'm sold on the rings.
Bless you a thousand times for explaining the wire loop to "install" the rings, and bless Ron another 1,000 times for his needle trick. I'll be trying that this winter. And when I need rings I'll certainly check out the J Stockard source - if they're solid rings.
Like we used to say in high school - "Cooperation means graduation." But this time it's not cheating!!
Thanks much.

Bill;
The J Stockard rings are a solid ring.
I found some small split rings made by Mustad. They are 5/32 from outside edge to outside edge and rated at 11lbs. The package says they are size 3.0, 12 to a package, and the part number is 9950N.
Have not yet tried them, may twist up a few leaders this weekend and see how they work out.
