My mentor for learning to make graphite rods was a firm believer in the use of Turtle Wax on ALL rods. Therefore, I do. I am of the opinion that they do stay cleaner longer, but have no opinion on whether it increases casting distance. Maintaining a clean line does this. Have not waxed any of my bamboo rods, but it should work on them too.
This was the first time I had seen it, too. Let's face it, how often are you around water and have low humidity? I think the combination of wind, cold, and drained lake had a lot to do with this situation. I was on the upwind end of the lake with little or no liquid water upwind of me. I was on the lake bed with dried moss and dirt all around me. The wind had sucked all the moisture out of the lake bed in that area. What moisture was left was frozen with the exception of the little spring I was fishing. I think the situation is unusual.
Wow !!! What a great idea !!! Never thought about it. Got me to wondering, what about that stuff for making car dashes looks good ? Can't remember the name, but.........

Another user of Pledge here. I use the disposable wipes to wipe down rods and pay special attention to the guide feed. I wipe down reels. This helps prevent salt residue from adhering to rods and reels and makes for easier cleaning and helps prevent corrosion.. I do this for gear used in brackish or alkaline fresh water too. Water will bead up and shake free easier from gear treated this.
