Tuna have no air bladder so they can feed at 1000' and then rocket to the surface in a matter of seconds with no ill effects. We catch plenty of tuna on the surface casting to busting fish but sometimes we go deeper when they are not active on top. As far as where we fish the tuna, that would be the best Yellowfin and Blackfin Tuna fishing anywhere on the globe - out of Venice, Louisiana.
Snapper do not survive well when brought up from deep but we keep those we catch deeper than 30'. Most of the Snapper however we catch on top.

That explains a lot Dr. Fish. I did my yellow fin and blue fin fising out of Cape Hatteras, N.C. the Snapper off of Oregon and Alaska and the rest of the runa species in the Bay of Mexico. I love raw tuna!
