i dont have a good digital camera but once i get one, either me or doug (the inventor) are hoping to post it on fly of the week.
the ingrediants are
marabou tail, lead wire wrapped around the shank, a little bit of small white chenille wrapped around the shank, pearl/rainbow/whatever its called mylar slid over lead and chenille for the body, and a strip of foam over the top that tapers and extends just past the hook bend, then add on some small rhinestone eyes. tie it on a size 8 or 10 jig hook
thanx, sounds pretty cool :)
One way to target them is to fish streamers off of riprap. They seem to like riprap to hold on and ambush bait. Lots of channel cats caught that way. of course bass and other predators may crash the party as well.
Also, up under willows or other overhanging vegetation in the wee hours.

One time I was spin fishing for crappie from the shore. I cast down stream along the shore bushes, a BIG channel cat took my jig and never came back! :(

Was just out this morning catching channel cats on a #8 brown girdle bug. A storm had gone through the night before and taken out a big willow tree and dumped it in the pond. There were a lot of swirls around the downed tree when I got there, but nothing was taking the usual surface offerings. So, I put on an unweighted girdle bug and tossed it out there. Sure enough, it settled maybe six inches, there was a swirl, and I was into a 12 inch channel. Not very big, but I was using a 4wt so that was fine by me. I caught 4 more in the next half hour, but had to leave to get ready for work. I'll propbably have to go out this evening to see if the trick works again 8)
I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but zonkers work as well as, and maybe for me, better than any other bait fish imitation. I have also caught a couple on larger prince nymphs as well. I usually tie my prince nymphs on salmon hooks for the added weight, and in case I hit into the larger cats and carp of Manitoba's Red River. HTH.
Haresear with rubber legs...Wahoo! Works great on Carp also.
