Does anybody have a Diamondglass?
Probably shouldn't admit it (what with all the other rods I have) but I have two Diamondglass rods; 7'3#, and an 8'5#. They are dandies!!
Tell me more Betty. Describe their action and how they compare to graphite/bamboo? Maybe some rods in either that sort of compare to them.
If I decide to get one it will have to be without trying it. If I have some idea of their feel, it will help me. I like soft fly rods, but not like a noodle.
Gramps, don't forget there is Lamiglass, McFarland, and Steffen Bro. There is also paribolic.Quote:

The 7'3# is probably my favorite of all my glass rods. It's slow enough to be responsive and make gentle presentations. I picked up a 24" brown of about 7pounds on it, and I didn't even hesitate. (yes, a 3#!! with 7X tippet!! the control was incredible!!) It cost appreciably less than the Hardy, and I think, for that reason, I'm more comfortable using it in tighter locations. We fish South Dakota and Wyoming (little) streams with not much clearance, and it's wonderful!! I would not hesitate to recommend Diamondglass.
Bamboo slow, not noodle-ie ... maybe smooth would be a good word to describe it!
Thanks Betty. I have a new goal. Save for a Diamondglass.
Gramps:
The Diamondglass rods are nice and faster than the Hardy JET or Lamiglass.
You may find some information [url=http://p097.ezboard.com/ffiberglassflyroddersfrm9:44219]here[/url:44219] that can help.
Welcome to the enlightened side, (assuming bamboo is the dark side).
I found that forum a week ago. That's why I jumped all over this subject. It's been on my mind and it was good to see the response here.Quote:

It is a personal choice that I must admit is based in part on nostalgia, part on durability and function, and part on cost. Fine glass rods are easily the equal of fine bamboo or graphite and much less expensive. I think the reason you don't see more of them fished is more marketing than function (a company can't make as much on a cheaper product, and neither can a fly shop). My other problem is that I have just as much enjoyment casting and fishing an old Fenwick glass rod as any newer rod of any material. In fact if you read this, Gramps, and want a great Diamodglass 8' 3pc 5wt for $195, email me. I have my eye on a couple of more Fenwicks and can get them
and a few others for what I spent on my $295 Diamondglass although it is a sweet casting rod.
