Maggie Moos sucks IMHO.
Maggie Moos for those that don't know is a 'fancy' place to get ice cream treats made in front of you on a cold platter. It's more show than substance.
The stuff is so sickly sweet it is simply awful.

I, like DG must vote for Tillamook. It is made in a small Costal town in Oregon.
Unlike DG, my favorite is Butter pecan but have been known to enjoy almost any flavor. Most stores here in WA have it for sale.
Back eons ago when my children were very little, in the Winter we used to do a lot of ice fishing back in WI where we lived. I did not use a power auguer but used a 6' spud bar to cut the holes. We always filled gunny sacks with the chipped ice to use for "making our own IC after arriving home". Our maker was hand operated so the smallest young un started cranking. As it became more difficult the next in size young un took over. By the time is was nearing completion ole Dad got the honors. I think there is nothing colder or better than home made IC.

Sherman's in South Haven, MI is good. Homemade is great. Brier's in the grocery store is decent, but of course the best is the one you're eating now.
I'm kind of a Blue Bell fan, myself.
their used to be an icecream maker in rhode island who made an Expresso ice cream with choclote covered expresso beans in it. I used to buy it by the 5 gal container. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm The only thing that comes close to it is ben and jerries coffee coffee buzzzz buzzzz buzzzz.
Maybe not the best since i've had homemade a number of times but a drugstore in Sharon MA had marble fudge that i can remember over just about any other ice cream i've ever had. I don't know the brand name and i'm sure i can't get it out west anywhere, but i do occasionaly suffer through a bowl of Umpqua Dairy ice cream...anything with chocolate is fine.
Cheers,

Tillamook's Oregon black cherry or just about anything from Stone Cold Creamery.

For serious chocolate ice cream lovers there are two great choices:
Basking & Robbins Chocolate Fudge (yum yum)
Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Therapy.
Now those are two absolutely fantastic chocolate ice creams.
Makes me want to hop in the car and go buy some.

That makes me want to dig out my little ice cream freezer. Makes a quart in a container which you put in your freezer ahead of time, a couple of days, it has some recipes, none bad. All start with heavy cream - at least the ones I remember. I'll find it, there was one made with banana and chopped mixed salted nuts that was a real winner. I think I'm hungry.
You people really are cruel and like to torture us diabetics.;) Well we all have to die from something right? He died eating a cone of Hughes Penn-Gold Ice Cream Co. from Harrisville, Pa.
