Congratulations on the rod, err, ahem, aaah, wedding anniversary, Sasha.
Holy Moly - what a great small stream rod that is going to be. Can't hardly stand the wait to see the pics of the water you fish it on and the fishies that come out to play with the flies you fish with it.
John
very nice stick. you are going to really enjoy that!
Thanks everyone!
I cant wait to get out and play with the SLT. For some odd reason I have a feeling it will be just like my 0wt SPL :D ;)
Honestly I wish Sage would bring back the SPL or SLT as they are (IMO) better rods than the TXL. Don't get me wrong I have fun with my TXL 000wt, but it is not the finesse rod that my SPL is.
I decided to christen my new rod on a little river that I have not fished since last October.
The day started off not too early when my alarm woke me up at 0600. I got out of bed (after hitting snooze a couple of times), and started to get ready. Today I was fishing alone so I was not in any huge hurry so I took my time. I finally left my house about an hour later.
It was fairly cold this morning, which was evident in the amount of ice on my car windows. It was still dark as I started my journey to the river. After a quick stop at Jack for a breakfast burrito and hash browns I was on my way. After a while I started to get close to my destination.
Although it was pretty light, the sun still had not come up by the time I reached the river. I got out of the car and got geared up. I was pretty excited to try my new rod and hopefully get some browns. After all the cute pics of browns I have seen lately I wanted to go get some too.

I made my way to the spot I wanted to fish and began to cast. It did not take long before I got my first strike. I fought this fish for a little bit, just when I thought I had him he popped off. I resumed fishing and not long after I got another strike. I set the hook and it was fish on. I fought this fish, landed him and returned him to the river.

Then I decided to go check out another run. Just like the first run it did not take long to get a strike. I ended up LDRing this and the next guy. I ended up landing the next few, so I did not feel too bad.
I decided to go back to the run I fished when I first got there. This ended up being a good decision. The fish were on and I had what they were keying on. I had an absolute blast; these guys were a treat to catch. After a little while I decided that it was time to call it a day.

I made my way back to the car, got out of my boots and waders, and took my rod down. I did have a fun day even though I was fishing a tailwater ;) . I did not take a lot of pics on this trip; I hope you enjoyed the report.
Nice, nice fishies! Good way to break in a new rod.
Curious how colored up they still are. I am used to seeing fish like that in October and into November, but by now, ours down south here are clean and the scars from spawning have healed, although they are still a bit skinny from all that hard work.
Looking forward to more nekkid fish pictures.
Dennis
Sasha -
That must have been an absolute blast catching those mean looking browns on that new 0 wt rod, and those are some good sized fishies.
Great set of pics. The scenery shot with the creek in the foreground and the high bluffs in the background ( sixth pic ) is outstanding.
Lookiing forward to another report soon.

Sasha, nice post and excellent fish. I recognize those spots and have fished them also. What a great river and what phenomenal fish it holds! Thanks for sharing.
Kelly.
Thanks guys!
To answer some of the questions: Most all the fish were a little worn out looking and still were showing "battle" scars.
The SLT was fun. I know some frown on the practice of fishing ultra light rods but I wont go down that road (all fish were landed quickly). I will say that thowing a weighted triple nymph rig under an indicator is not my favorite way to fish my 0wt rods.
