In the time you spent commiserating with us, you could have tied a few and been done with it. Sounds more like a discipline thing to me. Quit listening to those "glitzy" voices in your head and JUST DO IT! :p:p
Oh, and post pics to prove you actually did it. Aussie Brownies...
I don't know who said it, but something I heard once really stuck in my head..
"Most everything a trout eats is 5/8 of an inch long and brown"
Makes things real simple
"I am not like this when I dress myself. I am a plain dresser, shorts and tee shirt type. I need a "shorts and tee shirt" style nymph but my affliction is preventing me from tying one. My cars are plain too, as is my furniture, my study, my house"
Gringo, in SHORTS, the mind boggles!
As for a plain brown nymph I thought a Pheasant tail was a plain brown nymph, I had a look in my fly box and all my pt's are brown. What am I doing wrong, do I need to add a blue thorax, or maybe purple or gold or.... Man now I'm in trouble, so many to try.
All the best.
Mike.

Your dilema inspired me to come up with a new simple plain brown nymph this morning. If it works tomorrow when I get out on one of our spring creeks, I'll post a photo of it and its prey.
If it doesn't work, maybe I'll add some ribbing, and flash, and legs, maybe some chartreuse and blue and pink and ...... well, you know what I mean.
Stay tuned.

As close as you are to NZ, you should have one box full of hare-and-coppers mate!!! Who cares about a plain brown nymph when clearly ALL trout caught in your corner of the globe are taken on the venerable HNC?
I, too, find the plain brown nymph lacking in my collection. But with all those fancy materials available at the shop, how am I to stay focused on buying plain brown dubbing? The cards are stacked against guys like us!!!
