JC,
Neccessity is truly the father of invention. I made a similar one from an old bbq rotisserie motor that just gave out. The motor was over 20 years old.
Joe,
We just threw out our old microwave.
mdram,
Talk about low prices. The 3/4 rpm motor looks interesting and for under $2 no less.
You can get the motor that you want from Cabelas It will be listed as a motor for a cradle that turns fly rods while the epoxy is drying on the thread wraps. Jann's Netcraft has a similar motor that is much slower that I like better. Both are less than $20.00

Ty:
I just mounted mine on a piece of aluminum angle stock I had lying around the house. I mounted a 1" knob with a set screw; available at any Radio Shack on to the shaft and then from there you can attach foam or whatever to the knob or make up various "knobs" with different stuff attached to it. Or do what I did and epoxy a larger disk to the knob; put Velcro on the disk and make up detachable foam disks to go on it.
The key is using a knob on the shaft. It fits and holds PERFECT!
I'm almost ashamed to show this but it was something I cobbled up from a BBQ motor [thrift store ..1 to 2 $]...just to see how it would work....the rest is obvious and done with material on hand....I'm not recommending it but it shows a few ideas...
Foam...swimming pool noodle
Handy to stabilize foam with the BBQ prongs...or prong if you make a neater smaller setup...as mentioned the BBQ shaft is easy to cut down.
I've been known to attach a hand drill to the BBQ shaft and use a similar system to take line off a fly reel.

If that noodle was brown I'd swear it was a hunk of meat for a Gyro.
Cool set up except the milk carton police might come and git ya!
;)
Ducksterman,
That is one of the best MacGyver setups I have ever seen.
Tyrone,
You should start frequenting Garage or Household Sales. I went to one today and picked up a slow turning rotisarri motor for $0.50. All I need to do is put a chuck on it. I've picked up a few at other 'sales' for about $1 each. I never thought to use a microwave oven turntable motor so I guess I've thrown a few away. Little did I know. Anyway, you've gotten some great ideas that needn't require a big expense.
Deezel
Duckster,
I am truly in awe! 8T ;)
I had to take a load of construction debris to the landfill today. They have us empty our trucks inside a huge warehouse with a separate area for dropping off scrap metals. After unloading my truck, I stopped by the scrap metal area and found two microwaves with turntables. I flipped them both over and removed both motors in less than three minutes (they have an access cover for servicing/replacing the motors). Three phillips screws and two spade connectors are all that it takes to remove the motors from any microwave. Both of these were 3 rpm models, so I'll just throw them in stock as backups for my other one. If someone needs one, I'll be happy to trade something in return. Make me an offer via PM. Both have been tested and they both run.
