Re: Keepin me fingers crossed,
Bill, I am so sorry for what you are going through, and can't really imagine how aweful this might be. Please let us know if we can be of help in any other way than as moral support.
As an aside and not to hijack the thread, but I have taken to purchasing visa gift cards at the bank for 2 or 3 hundred dollars to make my online transactions with. I have only had it turned down once, and if anybody gets the number they can't steal much. Don't know if it would work for anyone else but it has saved me a lot of worry.
Again Bill, know that we are all still out here for you.

Re: Keepin me fingers crossed,
Got an email from Paypal, Stating that I needed to supply an account statement and a signed afidavid... Thats been taken care of......
Upon getting home and looking over the statement...Which My Bank made certian to copy onto a document with Bank letterheading...and to block out all of my account numbers..as they were not needed for their purposes on that end....One thing really stood out while going over the statement....and that was that Cabela's had hit my card/Account for the last of the backordered items of their order on the exact same day.....Not saying this Has a single thing to do with cabela's, As a company......But I just find this a tad fishy....and wonder IF... One of their staff members might have used my Card # for a purchase through Paypal....as I've not used this card for anything other than that 1 order to them....It all just seems sooo very odd...Paypal will be looking into the whole deal...so If they find anything odd...I do hope they let me know in the end...
From here on out I will limit all my ordering to phone, mail, or local shops...Prolly all by money order as well, cash always at local shops...
Re: Keepin me fingers crossed,
Bill,
Funny you should mention Cabelas. When we had our 1st planning meeting at Cabelas in Dundee, Mi I used a card I ONLY use for fly fishing stuff & hadn't used for a long time. I got a call from my bank a couple months later that some company in Alaska tried to run a $.93 (yes, 93 cent!) charge through. Letting it go would have given them access to my limit. they cancelled the card & re-issued a new one. I figured someone had taken a cell phone picture, but now I wonder....ANY company with as many employees as they have will have the occasional "bad apple". Who knows?
To expand a little on what Bob (Mantis) wrote, I NEVER open a business email...instead, I go to the site. In addition, a legit email from PayPal will ALWAYS be addressed to your first & last name, & I STILL forward them to spoof@paypal.com
Mike
Re: Keepin me fingers crossed,
It's only MY theory, Just seem's so very odd how this all happened on this same day, After only having used the card one time online....My only real concern is that paypal not drag their feet in getting this money back in my account as it was all the money we had...
I think the wife has been getting money from her parents....not that she'd ever tell me if this were the case...but I see no other way we could still be affording gas and such...let alone all the other stuff....Got my fingers crossed that my doc finially clears me work in a few hours...got the ok from Nurophsyce(sp) doc on monday..and Dr. Pratt was hinging his approval on them a bit...so monday next should get things rolling again...be a very long time getting our noses back above water...
Re: Keepin me fingers crossed,
Bill:
My advise to anyone who will listen is to NEVER use a debit/credit card for ANYTHING except withdrawals from a bank ATM.
While I realize not everyone can get a credit card; folks would be better served working on their credit rating and ability to get a credit card than using a debit/credit card for purchases. I know that with a debit card you can more easily police your spending limits and don't have to budget your money for that big credit card bill at the end of the month; but the real possibility of a checking account wipe-out outweighs that in my opinion. If I had no other choice but to use a credit/debit card; I'd open a separate account; keep a minimum amount of money in it and transfer any needed cash to it if necessary. Funds transfers can usually be done over the phone via automated systems or over the Internet which I DON'T do. Online banking has it's own set of pitfalls so I avoid it despite the inconvenience.
My friend had his checking account wiped out when an unscrupulous gas station attendant got his card number after a purchase with a debit card. (It turned out fine BTW). After he told me; my wife and I immediately stopped using our debit/credit for anything except cash withdrawals at our bank ATM.
I now use my Cabela's credit card for EVERYTHING, rack up LOTS of Cabela's points and I don't sweat it getting stolen because I'm only responsible for the $50 minimum and I won't pay that anyway if my card number gets stolen.
Oh yea, Cabela's is VERY diligent regarding unusual transactions on the card and will shut it down immediately if they see buying patterns that are unusual to the owner.
Finally, I set up a completely different and separate checking account in a DIFFERENT bank for my PayPal/eBay business. If the worst happens they can only get $100 out of my account since that's all I keep in it to get the free checking.
Good luck getting this mess cleared up!
Re: Keepin me fingers crossed,
Just keeps snow ball'in on down the hill don't it..... Had an appointment set for 9am this morning...7:30 the phone rings....big guess who it is....Dr. Pratt himself...The Nurophyse(sp) Doc's won't be getting my final test results back till the 24th...and He say's he cannot release me till he has those.....So he had my appointment reset for the 31st....I'm getting very fedup with this whole thing..
OK, so I've been lying to all of them that I'm not expereinceing any dizziness....But I don't think they quite get how badly I NEED to get back to work.....
Sorry for this whole little rant....Just when you think things can't get any worse........
Re: Keepin me fingers crossed,
Bill I am really concerned about this and hope you get through OK... If it helps I had real good service from Paypal when I got ripped off so I hope you do too... I did end up a little out of pocket but way better than I thought I would. My details have nothing to do with your case so I won't bother with that, just to say good luck from me, and I hope for the best.
It seems you have several courses of action open to you. Is there credit card insurance as an option?
Re: Keepin me fingers crossed,
 Bill!!! Don't you dare lie to them about dizzyness! You may need to get back to work, but you don't have the right to put yourself in danger, or any of the people you'd be working around. There is an abundance of people who are willing to help you out. Let them!
Re: Keepin me fingers crossed!!! Worked!!!!!!!
Because This morning I called the bank and my money has been returned to my account...
Paypal made good on their word....Even my own wife thought we'd never see the money again...of course I'm having her withdrawl all of funds from my account and deposit it into her account at her bank just down the road from mine...Think we'll be going there soon to add my name to her account..My bank should have caught this in the first place....They've dropped the ball to many times for me liking...
So all be on the lookout for anything charged to any account you have, By Paypal Jr....Don't know if thats some sort of subsidary of PayPal for Tax pourposes or what...But they must actually exist.
The company I work for has three seporate names that buy/sell stuff within the company....Guess it's a leagal tax cheat type thing...
Betty,
Seems it does not matter what I say, They must have a good general idea of how long it takes to fully recover from something like this. As my doc has demeed that he will not see me till the last day of this month and will not release me till he's gone over the Nuropsyche tests with a fine tooth comb.....
Re: Keepin me fingers crossed!!! Worked!!!!!!!
Not to steal the thread, but I had this in my email inbox over the weekend:
From: "service@paypal.com"<asteresef@hotxxxx.xxx>
To: undisclosed-recipients:;
Subject: Important Notification

Dear PayPal Customer,
This email is to inform you, that we had to block your PayPal Account
access because we had to upgrade our servers in order to remove online
fraud.
Our terms and conditions you agreed to state that your account must
always be under your control or those you designate at all times. We
have noticed some unusual activity related to our servers that indicates
that other parties may have access and, or control of your informations
in your account.
A quick email to spoof@paypal.com resulted in this response (along with detailed instructions on how to protect my account):
Thank you for taking the time to contact spoof@paypal.com. The email you
reported was not sent by PayPal and is a phishing (fraudulent) email.
<detailed instructions>
If you notice a payment that you don't recognize, visit the PayPal
Security Center to file a claim. We'll promptly investigate any
suspicious transactions and you won't be held liable for unauthorized
payments sent from your account.
Phishing emails often try to get your attention by telling you that
there's a problem with your account.
I think we need to all protect ourselves by sharing information. I hope this helps. Oh, the email that the phisher sent was very "official looking" - but close inspection of the senders email address is what concerned me, so paypal now has someone to go after.
