Thanks for the report and thanks for the photo's from a fellow Texan that does'nt get to see such sights to often. Great job.
Johnny,
Your pictures brought a tear to my eye. I was in co about a month ago and caught the bug. I cant wait to get back out there.
Beatiful pictures, thanks for the report even though it made me jealous.
David
Thanks so much for the report and pictures. Totally enjoyable! Very Nice.

I've been past most all those spots on my dirt bike. I've taken a pack rod on my dirt bike and fished some of the high mtn ponds and lakes. Lots of fun. Lots of brookies.
Man, what a great report, and love the pix. The kids are *priceless*! And congrats on the cut. I just love looking at water like that. We are incredibly fortunate to have places to go that are so unbelievably beautiful.

BBW - LOL....are you one of those crazy ppl that scare the tar out of me on Cement Creek road as you fly by on their dirt bikes?!?!? If so, where is everyone going...its way up past where I typically fish?
I usually only "fly" in spots where it's clear to and not near a house or cabin or camping area. But, yes I do tend to get after it a little in places where it's "OK" to. If I see a hiker or mtn biker I slow waaaaaaaaaaaay down. No need to make anyone mad ;)
We have a group that usually rides the first week of August there. I missed out this year.
If you ever get a chance go to Spring Creek and go out the gravel road that goes to Taylor Lake. Quite a few beaver ponds and a very nice stream along most of that roadway. I fished most of those ponds one year. Lots of very willing (albeit small) brookies.
I have not fished the Cement Creek area however and I don't know why really.
BBW - I meant to spend some time over there in the Spring Creek area but didn't get a chance (did most of my fishing during the boys' nap times). But we did drive over in that area when we went from CB to Leadville (over Cottonwood Pass) for a train ride. The area looks really nice, also made me want to wet a line in the Taylor as well. At the very least, it gives me something to look forward to if we're given the opportunity to get there next year.
Also, didn't mean to insinuate that you were unsafe on your dirt bikes. It think its more of a function of my nervousness of unfamiliar, small, dirt roads on the side of mountains than it was of the bikers being unsafe.
Great report! Glad you had fun out here! Just FYI, the Lake Fork is one of the most overlooked and underrated trout streams in the state. I'm sure it would get more play if it was closer to the metro area. Lake City is a pretty cool town if you ever get the chance. The area within 1 hour's drive of Gunnison probably has the richest fishing in the state. If I had the means, I would consider moving up there (you've gotta like big SNOW though).
You say you have in-laws in CB. I'll bet right now that you'll be spending a lot of time driving back and forth between CO and TX in your future. A little advice though, based on personal experience - stay OFF of US 287 if there is a snowstorm movin' through and try to stick to Interstate routes (either I35 / I135 / I70 -or- I35 / I40 / I25). I grew up here, and after college I spent about 5 1/2 years "trapped" in Ft. Worth. EVERY single vacation day that I took those first 5 years of work was spent either driving to/from or in Colorado... We were up here 2-4 times per year. Lots of miles!
