Yes, this was something I always wanted to try so this past spring I built a steamer and gave it a go. To my surprise the first one turned out fantastic so I built six more, gave one to a coworker as a retirement gift, and four as early Christmas presents to my traveling partners. To help recoup some of the cost I made seven more and sold them to guys that had seen mine or one of my friends.
Here are pics of a couple that I made plus my steamer setup. Once the snow start to fall I plan to do some more.

Wish I'd taken a photo of my set up for this thread as I spent a bit of time at my "bench" this last weekend. I'll describe it as well as I can.
I tie my flies outside my cabin up in the Sierras in the natural light. Morning and afternoon are best for filtered light through the trees. I set up an old metal TV tray, attach my vise to the side, and set a chair downhill from the tray. My tools are in a homemade holder - glued blocks of wood with holes. I have my books open on an old camping stool to my left and my materials case to my right. It's an old plastic file box. I take out just what I need for the three flies I will tie. When I change patterns I trade supplies and keep just what I need out. The materials sit on the tray close to me and the TV tray is pushed close. I wear magnification goggles and have a pillow at my back. The angle of the tray and the chair give me a good view without leaning forward. I'm sure it looks odd but it works. Tying inside isn't the same as I can't match the light and the comfort. The flies aren't the same either.
I'll take a photo of my bench for you all next summer.
