Hi Newfoundlander,
Inspired by your creations, I tied up a "free-style spey" on a size 10 2x shank. The wing I produced is an ... interesting interpretation of the spey wing style! but it was fun to try. I'll probably tie up a few for the box and hopefully my winging will improve. Anyway, having made the attempt I'm even more impressed with your outputs.

Yeah, It's tough business, and before I got the Bronze Mallard from Ron Lucas, I never had much success with it at all.
Not all wings pictured in those posts are perfect, but they are acceptable.
The only good wing, is the one with the Blue body on a streamer hook.
These are tough, but at least they are easier than the full style married wings you see on Atlantic and Steelhead flies and a good place to start for sure.
Keep with it, a couple of my best wings just more or less fell into place by accident when I lost my grip, If you don't like it reset it.
Like I said I sat there for about a hour and a half trying to set the wing on the greenhighlander type fly.
Most other wings took about 10 to 20 minutes, http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/biggrin.gif.
