I am among several folks that have sent flies to newbies that come to this site. I think that by watching the site you can reconfize thesxe foks and contact them.
My nickle on the subject.
Rick
You are right, Norm.
In fact, my first donation is in the mail.
It be perfectly honest, I was a bit hesitant to ask for the youngsters address. What with the way things are in this world today.
But darn it, somebody has to step up, and I have, just on my own. ;)
So a handful of my own meager hand tyed fly's are on there way to help out a new fly fisher.
My old hand reaching half way acrossed America to a new fly fisher.
I'd be equally surprised if he can catch with them.
To me, the joy these days is in helping new or unsuccessful fishers to become successful fishers. Giving encouragement, sharing.
Besides, I tye more than I can ever loose in the bushes or snapping off with my whip cracking casting. :D :tieone:
I'm new in SoCal so I don't know anybody around here but if you guys know somebody who is in need of flies send me a pm. I will send pictures of my flies so you can judge the quality if needed.
hmmm, so many reasons not to donate but an equal amount to do so.
Sorry--but I would never give flies away thru this site unless I know the person. or a standing member would verify the cause. Even though Im older than most on this site I could log in as a new member say that im fifteen years old and in need of a few flies--It has happened. I do donate to clubs ,local benefit auctions. I once along with another club member tied 12 dozen for a good cause.:tieone: BILL
Bill I'm glad that you have a place locally to give, I know that you spend time and effort teaching new tiers. I don't have a local club and am not an advanced enough tier to teach so I occasionally send flies.
My perspective on this is yes I could be scammed.... but lets put this in perspective, if I gave away 18 flies to a scammer what am I truly out, Time yes, but I tie far more than what I use and continue to tie even though I know I will never use them. So time isn't an issue. Expense, how much do 18 basic flies really cost? The fact that someone might be scamming Me? I truly believe that good deeds are rewarded, I may be scammed but so what, I get a good feeling and the scammer has to live with himself.
Eric
I gotta pm so I will send a pack of flies to a new fly angler.
