I think the lack of imagination for cover art is right up there with the way too many number of articles on exotic destinations for most magazines. At least this one presents reachable destinations. My trips out West are far and few between and Argentina, Iceland, Russia etc...Not even if I hit the lotto! I just get sick of way too many articles on these places that I am sure the writer or editor was comped a trip to write it. The only things I read in most of them are: the editorial and the letters to the editor and the back pages by John and Tap The rest of the back page writers aren't even close to the great stuff Nick Lyons used to write. I do like the occasional fiction piece. I have noticed lately a big increase in the number of mystery FF books and paperbacks. Casting articles in a magazine? ... Nobody learns casting from a magazine...
As far as the cover art goes, I am so sick of seeing someone holding a fish, or a fish and the rod is lying along side of it, or the rod is held in the fisherman's mouth...Tacky! Check some of the covers on the very early Fly Fisherman Magazines... What a difference.!!!!!!! GREAT old covers! And worse yet... the writing all over the cover about what is instde. We know what should be inside, we can read the index...Put a beautiful cover on a magazine and watch it fly off the stands. Those of us that subscribe certainly don't need the writing all over the cover to temp us to buy it. Just my .03 cents...Bob

I'll put in a plug for American Angler. It was mentioned briefly in a previous post. I subscribe to several, and enjoy AA the most. No connections or relatives working there. Seems to connect with my tastes both in informative articles, and great patterns with tying directions. MY 2 cents.

It's a 'kiss and tell' rag! I cancelled it after the first issue arrived.

I have subscribed to it for the past year and have generally liked it. I received my final issue yesterday. An article about the Letort upset me somewhat. The author suggested that they should stop managing it as a wild trout fishery and go back to stocking. I think it's a real sin that we cannot maintain wild trout rivers and I don't think we should just throw in the towel. I'm not renewing my subscription.

I usually try to stay out of something like this - http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/frown.gif . However, here goes.
I found the magazine to be a travelogue for "pay to play" venues during the first several issues. Nothing else in it. All glowing reports. My guess is that the "day tickets" were freebees and the magazine was pay-back for the free ride. The last coupla of issues [or one - can't remember] did have some public water articles in it.
I won't re-subscribe. A local book store is carring it on their shelves. I'll probably continue watching it and see what happens. The first years are all due to re-up now. We'll see if the mag is changing direction or if they go back to travelogue.
Just my opinings of course. http://www.flyanglersonline.com/bb/smile.gif

I tried it for a year .. I will not get it again .I'm not sure how most people feel and I'm not knocking our western brothers but when I read the tittle, "East" I guess it meant east coast or at least east of the Mississippi ,not east of the west coast or rockies.Guess I was looking for something a little more hometown .Appalachian, Catskills ,Poconos, Adirondacks, Ontario Erie tribs and such. And there was alot of adds .. Dissapointment at best .I guess my money will be better spent on a tank of gas to go fishing... or a half a tank anyhow.
