I have the same question but am also considering a Nautilus Feather weight #3 for my 5 weight. I was hoping somebody on this board could help with this decision. Anybody have this reel and how does it compare to the Ross & Lamson?

Interestingly,
I have just heard a number of posts attesting to how wonderful the Ross service department
is.
I'll just say that I have two (2) Lamson Litespeed 2s, and I've never had to return them for service.
I don't have either, but I was thinking the same thing. I fish somewhere between 60 and 180 days per year...bad year and good year, respectively. And I've been at it for 10 years. I've never needed to service a reel. I have TFOs, Okumas, Redingtons, and a new Elkhorn.
I think it's great that these companies have good warranty service. But all this talk about how great they are because so many have to send them in for service makes me think that I've made good choices in staying away from the expensive reel companies.
farrell,
good choice on the Ross. i have ross gunnisons that are almost 20 years old and they have never been returned for any kind of service nor have required any service from me.

I mentioned before I have a Lamson Litespeed and several Ross's. While in Florida, I heard the first negative comment on a Litespeed yet. A guide said he had a customer who was fighting a Tarpon for over 1/2 hour when the reel seat mounting screw on his Litespeed snapped and the reel turned sideways - being held by only one screw. The leader snapped and by by tarpon. I looked at the screws which mount the seat to the reel body and they do look rather small. Just another piece of data for those interested. I think this would only apply to salt water and big fish. No data as to how the reel was cared for. You have to wash them off in warm fresh water after every use down here or you will get corosion in hidden places from the salt water.
