@Greg H: That's a great article! I copied it for future reference and once I've got a cup of coffee in me I'll read it again with my hare's mask in hand and take a good look at the various bits the author refers to. Thanks!
As to the coffee grinder, I actually had one kicking around that never saw any use (it was a gift, but the last thing I want to do is to add an extra step between me and coffee first thing in the morning). It still works and I'll be putting it to good use at the bench.
I just cannot make myself buy a hare's mask at this point in time. It is creepy, and I don't want a face in my tying box. My daughter freaks out when I place things in the freezer for a while anyway. (she is eighteen) Even my son who is 16 is creeped out a little by the masks. I did see a whole red fox pelt I wanted, but couldn't afford at a traders market. I smiled thinking of what my daughter would do if she came home and saw that hanging on the wall.
For now I will use zonkers, or dubbing that is premade, and mix my own when necessary.
i just buy the pre-packaged stuff in a light and dark hares ear color and i'm done with it. doesnt require any additional thinking on my part (i could get hurt thinking) :D;)
this page was translate from french to english. hope it reads right

Thanks for all of the responses. I think my immediate course of action is to work with the mask I was given and see if it presents any deal breakers for me. If the hassle factor (or creep factor) seem excessive, I'll pick up some pre-blended hare's ear sooner rather than later and try that. Regardless, I think getting a hold of a package of the pre-blended at some point sounds like a good idea, if only to look at its texture and have something on the bench for when I really need to tie something up in a hurry.
Thanks again for the tips and advice!
one last comment. if the masks creep u out, there is another simple solution besides not buying them. remember, it is dried skin, and dried skin breaks easily, so if u dont want that precious, cute, cuddly bunny face that u just bought and are now thinking of a faceless peter cotton tail, just break the face into pieces: ears, left, right, up and down. :) soooooo simple, its unpredictable.

I'm not sure I understand the "creeping out" part of the hares mask. Sounds alot like the "pre-packaged" meat deal not actually seeming like eating a critter. But that's a different thread:-)
If you don't like the mask....just trim the fur after buying, put it in bags & toss the mask.
When going to pick out the hairs mask another thing (beyond what has been mentioned) that you should pay attention to is the length of the hairs on the mask. If it was harvested during the colder part of the year the hairs will be longer. If it was harvested during warmer times of the year they will be shorter. I like the longer hairs as I find them easier to work with.
Also, on the creep out issue, hang a few in the windows of your house if you live in an area known for break ins. If you do this you can be reassured that any thieves in the area will think twice before breaking into your house. Something about a bunch of dead and skinned faces in the windows seems to scare potential thieves away quite quickly.
Now that was funny as all get out, I laughed so hard it was just pitiful...
That's just creepy!
So, if actually looking at the bunny faces creeps me out, then just taking them and breaking them into little pieces will fix that? YUCK!
I think I won't do that. I've pretty much abandoned dubbing anyway.
I've also found that the loud barking, hackles raised, ninety pound dog in my yard discourages the criminal element quite well. She's really just bluffing, she's a sweatherat and she's scared of her own shadow, but they don't know that ;). Her hundred pound daughter is a different story. She might actully eat someone who threatened her family.
