What's her name? Does she tend to stray when you're outside...by stray is she an explorer that could get lost? Take her to a vet and have her chipped. Doesn't hurt the dog and gives a fool proof method of identifying the owner through the info on the microchip inserted under the dog's skin on the nape of his/her neck.
Congratulations!

Avalon will never relace Sidney. She will only be there next to and hopefully equal to Sidney in your heart. It so nice that our ability to love knows no bounds. Congratulations.
My dog Plugs had no equal, but Wonder has also found a place in my heart. Now wonder is in her last few months of life and I am looking at facing that loss. I feel graced by having two dogs in my life that were that special.

Dear Jed,
I'm sorry to learn that Wonder is nearing her time. I wish you well as your approach that day, and I hope you can appreciate the time you spent together rather than dwell on the time you will be apart.
You did bring up an interesting point, and that is the idea of replacing a dog.
I don't expect Avalon to "replace" Sidney, but I find that I am talking to, playing with, and acting the same with Avalon as I did with Sidney.
When I do that though I often sneak a peak skyward and ask Sidney for her approval. The last thing I want to do is insult her memory.
I realize that sounds ridiculous, but no one ever accused me of being the most logical and sensible person on Earth.
I'm truly glad for the time I spent with Sidney, and I hope that Avalon and I enjoy each other's company like Sid and I did.
Sincerely,
Tim Murphy
