I can't believe no one told you the truth about this situation. Whichever way you go most of the fish went the other way. At least, that what they do to me.

Take a friend or acquaintenance with really nice equipment and go the opposite direction from him, try to look like a 12 year old who doesn't know what he's doing. I can give you instruction on the not knowing what your doing part.
I think if you approach the stream bumbling and stomping, acting like you don't even KNOW there's fish in there, you'll be in luck. Bring a zebco strung up with flourescent 12lb stren, complete with treble hook and 1 oz. weight to complete the disguise!
Seriously though, if there has been any major current flow, I'd look downstream.
